Example 1:
The subnet mask of the LAN is 55.55.55.0. The LAN consists of:
• 3x PCs
• 1x StecaGrid Connect
Since the first, second, and third numbers of the subnet mask are all 55, the first,
second, and third numbers of the IP addresses of the devices must be the same.
If the IP address of one of the PCs is (e.g.) 19.168.145.1, then the IP addresses
of all the other devices must also begin with 19.168.145. The IP addresses of
the other devices may therefore lie between 19.168.145.1 and 19.168.145.54
(except for the address 19.168.145.1, which is already assigned).
Example 2:
The subnet mask of the LAN is 55.55.0.0. The LAN consists of:
• 3x PCs
• 1x StecaGrid Connect
Since the first and second numbers of the subnet mask are 55, the first and sec-
ond numbers of the IP addresses of the devices must be the same. If the IP address
of one of the PCs is (e.g.) 19.168.145.1, then the IP addresses of all the other
devices must also begin with 19.168. The IP addresses of the other devices may

19.168.145.1).
The first and last addresses in a network (i.e. the addresses ending with 0 and
55 in the above examples) may not be used because these are used for special
purposes by the devices in the network.
