Creating a wireless connection
Example 1: Wireless connection with a PC
The first example in this chapter shows how to connect one or more StecaGrid
Connect devices to a PC via a wireless network.
Installation
You need a WLAN card in the PC and a WLAN router. Connect the StecaGrid Con-
nect to the WLAN router. Most WLAN routers have several available sockets, so
you can also connect several StecaGrid Connect devices to the WLAN router if you
wish. If insufficient sockets are available, then just use a network switch. You must
use a 1-to-1 cable for connecting the StecaGrid Connect to a router.
The WLAN router
The easiest way to configure the router is usually to directly connect the router to
the PC using a 1-to-1 cable. You must first configure the WLAN parameters (WLAN
Inverter
identification, authentication, encryption) of the router according to the opera-
tor's manual. Once the router has been configured, you can remove the 1-to-1
cable and configure the WLAN card in the PC.
The WLAN card in the PC
The configuration software provided with the WLAN card should now automati-
cally recognise the wireless network that you previously configured on the router.
You must now configure the card so that you have access to this WLAN. Details
are provided in the operator's manual for the card.
WLAN router
IP address, subnet mask and standard gateway
Once the IP address and subnet mask of the router have been defined you can
select a suitable IP address for the StecaGrid and the PC. If the router is used as an
access point to the Internet or another network, then you must set the IP address
of the router as the standard gateway for both devices.
