Creating a direct connection

The example in this chapter shows how to connect the StecaGrid Connect directly
to a PC with an Ethernet interface.

Installation

Use a crossover cable for directly connecting the StecaGrid Connect to a PC.

IP address and subnet mask

If the IP address and subnet mask of the PC are already explicitly defined, you can
immediately select an IP address for the StecaGrid Connect.

For Windows XP with the classical start menu:

On the PC, navigate to > Start > Settings > Control Panel
> Network Connections > LAN Connection.
The LAN Connection Status window opens.

For Windows XP with the standard start menu:

On the PC, navigate to > Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet
Connections > Network Connections > LAN Connection.
The LAN Connection Status window opens.


In the LAN Connection Status window, click the Network Support tab.


Read the IP address of the PC from the IP address field.


Read the subnet mask of the PC from the Subnet mask field.


Use the IP address and subnet mask of the PC to select an IP address for

your StecaGrid Connect.
NOTE
If necessary, you can change the IP address and subnet mask of the PC under

Microsoft Windows®. Further information is provided in the Microsoft Win-
dows® documentation. Set the correct IP address and subnet mask in the
StecaGrid Connect (see "Configuration" on page 36).
Example:
The IP address of the PC is 19.168.145.1 and the subnet mask is 55.55.55.0.
The IP address of the StecaGrid Connect must begin with 19.168.145. Therefore
it can lie between 19.168.145.1 and 19.168.145.54 (except for the address
19.168.145.1).
NOTE
It is not necessary to configure the standard gateway, the web port, or the data

port of the StecaGrid Connect.
