Function
Pressurising the cylinder chambers causes the pistons in the DRD/DRE to move
back and forth. Linear motion is converted into rotary motion by means of a rack
and pinion gear, the constant torque of which is transmitted to a semi−rotary valve.
The permitted rated torque can be found in the type designation of the relevant
DRD/DRE (multiplied by the factor 10) è Fig. 8.
3
Application
The DRD/DRE is tailored completely to the requirements of the processing
industry. It is used for controlling media−flow semi−rotary valves in systems.
The standard variant of the DRD/DRE is used for semi−rotary valves which close
in the clockwise direction.
The drive has been designed for use in semi−rotary valves with a range of
movement limited to 90°, such as ball cocks and butterfly valves (quarter turn
actuators). With DRD−/DRE− −O− semi−rotary drives, the range of rotation is
adjustable. The device is not intended for use as a cushioning or shock absorbing
element. This may result in excessive loads.

Transport and storage
· Ensure storage conditions as follows: short storage periods in cool, dry, shaded
and corrosion−protected locations.

Safety conditions
Warning
Improper handling can result in malfunctions.
· Make sure that all the instructions in this chapter are observed. In this way
the product will perform as intended.
· Unauthorised product modification is not permitted.
· Ensure that all applicable national and local safety laws are adhered to.
· Remove the packing except for the adhesive labels on the compressed air
supply ports (to prevent dirt).
· The packing is intended for recycling (except for: oiled paper = other waste).
· Compare the maximum values specified in these operating instructions to your
current application (e.g. pressures, forces, torques, masses, response times,
temperatures). The product can only be used in accordance with the relevant
standards if the maximum load limits are observed.
· Take into consideration the ambient conditions at the location of use. Corrosive
environments reduce the service life of the product.
· Protect the device from fluctuations in pressure and excess operating
temperature. Use control valves for regulating pressure and excess pressure.
· Ensure that there is a supply of correctly prepared compressed air. The product
requires dried compressed air, lubricated or unlubricated.
· Use only non−lubricated compressed air under normal conditions.
The DRD/DRE possesses initial lubrication which will suffice for the complete
service life.
Please note
Continuous operation at the limits of the specified ambient temperature and
work frequency can reduce the service life of the semi−rotary drive.
· Use lubricated compressed air for continuous operation under extreme condi
tions. The oil must be chemically inert and must not carbonise.
The initial lubrication will be washed out if lubricated compressed air is used.
· From that point onwards, the DRD/DRE must be operated only with lubricated
compressed air.
5
If the DRD/DRE is used in a potentially−explosive atmosphere:
6
· Please observe the notes and instructions in the accompanying brief operating
instructions for the device.
6
Installation
The DRD/DRE should be mounted on a semi−rotary
drive in accordance with the desired direction of
rotation.
If a 3−way semi−rotary valve is used 8:
· Align the semi−rotary drive so that the connection
openings face the side without tubing. The
pneumatic connection must have a free working
space.
When high−temperature media are used in the tubing and semi−rotary valve:
· Use a mounting bridge and a heat−insulated coupling.
6.1 Fitting mechanical components
· In order to mount the DRD/DRE semi−rotary drive, set the control shaft of the
semi−rotary valve so that the desired working method for opening and closing
the semi−rotary valve is implemented.
· Note that a semi−rotary valve with butterfly valve can only be opened in one
direction and closed in the opposite direction.
