3 Product Description

3.1 Construction and functional description

Gnathometer CAD is an intraoral support pin registration
device or the individualized determination of the centric jaw
position in edentulous patients.
The basic priniciple of the intraoral support pin method is
based on the idea of McGrane, Gysi, Gerber etc. of the three-
point rest of the two jaw joints and the registration pin,
which is placed in the balance point of the mandible. The
support pin draws the typical image of the Gothic Arch on a
coloured registration plate if the patient performs
movements towards the right lateral and the left lateral out
of the dorsal position . The tip of the Gothic Arch marks the
retral contact position, while the centric occlusal position is
marked by the crossing point. The desired centric position
can then be fixed using the fixing plat. Subsequently, the
entire registration is three-dimensionally locked with a
suitable material (e.g. registration silicone or stone). After
that, the registration is mounted on a special scan holder
and placed into the scanner for digitization.
The special feature of this registration device is that the
registration plates are equipped with a snap-action
mechanism. With this snap-action mechanism, the bite rim
supports and the registration plates can be quickly and easily
attached and removed in order to conduct the different
working steps. In a first step, the bite rim supports are used
for the functional impressions. After that, the bite rim
supports are removed and replaced with the registration
plates. Then, needle point tracing is performed to determine
the centric function.

3.2 Indications, Contraindications

Indications:
Determining the centric TMJ position in edentulous patients.
Contraindication:
The device cannot be used for dentulous or partially
dentulous cases.

4.2 Assembly and initial start-up
Important information:
Clean the components before they are used for the first
time (see Cleaning in Chapter 7.2).
The Gnathometer CAD is already partly assembled. This
general drawing depicts the various components and
individual parts.
Please refer to the List of Parts on Page 16 for the part
designations.
