6.2.2 Verifying the vertical height
Adjust height, if necessary. Depending on the method,
adequate auxiliaries (e.g. ruler, sliding caliper) or techniques
(speech-sounds) can be used.
6.2.3 Coating the mandibular registration plate with
colourant
Coat the mandibular registration plate (1) with a suitable
colourant (crayon, grease pencil etc.).
6.2.4 Conducting the needle point tracing
Both functional impressions together with the registration
components are replaced in the mouth of the patient. Now
instruct the patient to execute the following movements:
It is recommended to practice these movements beforehand!
1. Move the mandible forward (protrusion) – and back,
repeat if necessary
2. Move the mandible to the right (lateral movement) – and
back, repeat if necessary
3. Move the mandible to the left (lateral movement) – and
back, repeat if necessary
4. Move the mandible backward (retrusion) – and back,
repeat if necessary
Important information:
The patient must sit upright and hold the head
straight (no leaning).
The typical result of needle point tracing may look like the
one shown in the picture. Please refer to the corresponding
specialist literature for the interpretation of the various
Gothic Arch tracings and their meaning.
Warning:
To prevent injury by the registration pin, the
patient must be instructed to slide the tongue
below the registration plate.
