!
When handling pH Reducer products, protective glasses and clothing should be worn to protect
against splashes. In the event of contact with the skin, flush the area abundantly with water, seek
medical attention immediately if the eyes are effected.
!
Beware of freezing! Similarly to other hydraulic equipment, the cell could be damaged by freezing
of the water. Make sure that the temperature at the point where the Chlorine generator is installed
remains above zero to prevent water from freezing in the cell while the filtration pump is not running.

PRODUCT FEATURES AND OPTIONS

Operating principal

2.1.1 Operating principal - Pro A Chlorine generator
The BWT PRO A Chlorine generator is a pool water treatment device that electrolyses salt (Sodium
Chlorine) dissolved in the pool water. It gradually and automatically transforms the dissolved salt into free
Chlorine (Hydrochloric acid and Sodium Hypochorite). Salt water electrolysis offers many advantages
compared to conventional chlorination processes.
No handling or storing of chlorinated products that are dangerous when concentrated (salt is harmless
and chemically inert);
No risk of over-stabilisation of the pool water;
The device regularly produces active Chlorine, this limits the formation of chloramines that have an
unpleasant odour and irritate the eyes and skin of bathers; bathing is more pleasant;
The break down of Chloramines produces Chlorides that can be turned back into active Chlorine by the
cell. Chlorine is automatically regenerated, this reduces the amount of salt to be added over time;
For the Pro A model, the concentration of dissolved salt in the water should ideally be between 3.5
and 4 g/ litre. It should never rise above100 g/L.
The device adapts automatically to salt concentrations within the permitted range. If the pool water is soft,
an initial step of dissolving solid salt in the pool water will be necessary before using the device for the first
time. Subsequently, much smaller amounts of salt will need to be added.
See chapter 5, Adding salt to the pool
We recommend the use of pool grade salt compliant with the standard NF EN 16401.
The device also runs perfectly when installed on pools filled with sea water (approx 30g of salt per litre for
Atlantic and Mediterranean sea water).
While the device is running, a continuous SELV direct current passes between the electrodes in the cell
and transforms the salt chlorides dissolved in the water into active Chlorine. This active Chlorine kills
micro-organisms (disinfection) and destroys organic matter (oxidation). The cell should be mounted on the
hydraulic circuit, and water should circulate continuously through it so that Chlorine can be continuously
generated.
See chapter 4.1, Hydraulic installation
The generation of active Chlorine causes the pH to rise slowly and gradually over time. The pH should be
monitored and adjusted when necessary by adding the appropriate quantity of acid.
2.1.2 Operating principal - Pro LS Chlorine generator
The BWT PRO LS Chlorine generator combines two disinfectant production methods: the electrolysis
of dissolved salt, as described previously for the PRO A, and the hydrolysis of water that splits water
molecules into free radicals. The electrical current arriving in the cell is used preferentially for one method
or the other, depending on the concentration of dissolved salt. If the concentration of dissolved salt is less
than 3.5 g/litre, the production of free radicals increases to compensate the drop in production of free
