AUTOMATIC DIAGNOSTIC CHARGER FOR 12V LEAD-ACID AND 12.8V LIFEPO
(LITHIUM FERROUS PHOSPHATE) BATTERIES. DO NOT USE FOR NiCd, NiMH or
any other type of Li-Ion or NON-RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES.
IMPORTANT: READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THE
APPLIANCE.
FOR USERS IN CANADA and the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, ALSO READ
THE ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ON PAGES 3 & 4.
This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction
concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with
the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
SAFETY WARNING: Use the appliance only if the input and output leads and connectors are in good,
undamaged condition. If the input cable is damaged, it is essential to have it replaced without delay, to avoid
danger. Protect the appliance from acid and acid fumes and from damp and humid conditions both during use
and in storage. Distance the appliance from the battery during charging.
EXPOSURE TO LIQUIDS: This appliance is not designed to withstand exposure to liquids. Failure of the charger
due to oxidation resulting from the eventual penetration of liquid into the electronic components, connectors or
plugs, is not covered by warranty.
POSITIONING DURING USE: If using it in the horizontal orientation, place the battery charger on a hard, flat
surface, but NOT on plastic, textile or leather. The battery charger may be temporarily hung from a suitable
handlebar or strut with the removable hanging hook accessory. The battery charger can be permanently
mounted on a sound vertical surface using the fixing holes provided in the enclosure.
A. PREPARING TO CHARGE
BATTERY TECHNOLOGY: This OptiMate PRO DUO battery charger is designed to charge 12V lead-acid or 12.8V
/ 13.2V Lithium Ferrous Phosphate (LiFePO
* LiFePO
: a commonly used acronym is LFP or the abbreviation LiFe.

Advanced LFP/LiFePO
batteries have a resettable internal overdischarge protective circuit within its battery
4
management system (BMS), that will disconnect power internally from the positive battery terminal if the voltage
has reduced below a set value (e.g. 8.2V) during discharge. This overdischarge protection may automatically
reset and once again deliver power to the positive terminal if the voltage has increased above the reset voltage
(e.g. 8.6V). This may occur repeatedly if the battery is discharging in a motorcycle, until the charge remaining
has reduced to a level where the battery voltage is unable to rise above the reset level.
DIFFERENT BATTERY SIZES: The ampmatic™ CHARGE program automatically determines the most
efficient rate of charge current for the connected battery, according to its state of charge, state of health, and
electrical storage (Ah) capacity.
CHARGING ENVIRONMENT
temperatures of 0°C/32°F and 45°C/113°F. If the battery was stored in temperatures above or below this range,
before charging allow sufficient time for the battery temperature to acclimate within the safe temperature
range. DO NOT CHARGE A FROZEN BATTERY! OptiMate PRO DUO will adjust charge current if the temperature
measured at the battery charger is equal or below 0ºC / 32ºF or above 45ºC / 113ºF. If the temperature was
initially below 0ºC / 32ºF charge current is limited for the first hour after which the battery is expected to have
increased its internal temperature. If the temperature is below -20ºC/-4°F or above 55°C/131°F no charging will
be allowed.
Lead-acid (Pb) batteries: The charge voltage is inversely regulated according to ambient temperature i.e.
voltage is increased at lower temperature, decreased at higher temperature. Adjustment: -0.004V / cell / °C
above or below 20°C (68°F).
NEW BATTERIES: Always charge before first use. New LFP/LiFePO
