3.4 Relative responses of gas types
The graph below shows the relative responses to other gas types for an IRmax calibrated
on methane.
Note: many hydrocarbon gases and vapours are more easily detected by IR
detectors than methane. The response of IRmax (and other IR gas detectors) will be
linear across the 0-100%LEL range for the target gas (ie methane in this example),
but non-linear for other hydrocarbons that may also be present.
