Preparation
To install the cog racks, place cog
rack holders between the ties of
the track. (One holder every 100
mm is recommended.) Then light-
ly press the rack into the holder
(Fig. 5). The holder will lock onto
the rack and the track.
Join the individual cog racks by
pressing the male and female
ends together (Fig. 6).

b.On a real rack railway, safety
requires the rack loco to run
behind the cars, so that it
always is located on the down-
hill side of the train. The same
procedure should be followed
with an LGB rack loco. On less
severe gradients and on level
track, the loco may pull the
train.
b.If there is a mixture of adhesion
and rack operation on the lay-
out, Rack Loco Coupler Hooks
(64462) should be used on all
rolling stock to prevent acci-
dental uncoupling. The loco
and passenger cars included
with this set are factory equip-
ped with these special hooks.
b.To avoid abrupt transitions and
to prevent kinks in the tracks,
use several short straight track
sections (like 10150) at the
beginning and the end of a
steep section.
b.For overhead catenary operati-
on on mountain sections, use
the
tilting
(56300). The masts should be
spaced closer than they are on
level track.

Kit train du „Zugspitze"
LE MODELE D'ORIGINE
Le train du „Zugspitze" (connu
sous le nom de ZSB) est le train
de montagne le plus célèbre d'Al-
lemagne. Tous les ans, des cen-
taines de milliers de skieurs et de
touristes l'utilisent pour monter au
„Zugspitze", le point culminant de
l'Allemagne.
Le chemin de fer du Zugspitze, à
voie métrique, commence comme
chemin de fer normal à adhéren-
ce dans la ville olympique de Gar-
misch-Partenkirchen. La section à
crémaillère commence au bout
de 7,5 kilomètres, à Grainau. Ses
11,2 kilomètres avec une pente
allant jusqu'à 25% mènent au
„Schneefernerhaus", le terminus.
A partir de là, il est possible de se
rendre au sommet, à 2961 mèt-
res, par un téléphérique.
