Troubleshooting

Contact technical support if the troubleshooting steps below do not correct the problem.
Problem
The instrument will not come on.
The instrument is on but does not
respond to key pushes.
The instrument will not go off
when the power key is pushed.
The "Sonde HL" main menu does
not show at the top of the display.
The PC not able to connect to the
instrument.
The software driver for the
instrument does not install
successfully on the PC.
The PC is not able to connect to
the sonde.

Description
AC power adapter, with 4-plug wall clip set
Power supply, 90–264 VAC, 47 to 63 Hz, 12 VDC
Battery pack, lithium-ion, rechargeable, 3.7 VDC, 4.2 Ah, 17.7 Whr
Dust cover kit, Surveyor HL, includes the dust covers and screws necessary to
replace all the dust covers on the instrument
Hand strap
USB cable with mini-B connector, 1 m (3 ft)
Possible cause
The battery level is low.
The instrument is connected to a
PC with Hydrolab Operating
Software.
The battery charger is connected
to the instrument.
A sonde is not connected to the
instrument.
The instrument is off.
The software driver for the
instrument has not been installed
on the USB port.
Note: If a different USB port is used on
a PC, the software driver for the
instrument must be installed again.
The USB cable is defective.
The PC does not have Hydrolab
Operating Software installed.
The sonde is connected to the
PC through the instrument.
W A R N I N G
Solution
Charge the battery. Refer to
battery on page 7.
Disconnect the instrument from the PC.
Refer to Disconnect from a PC
on page 23.
The instrument power cannot be set to
off while the battery charger is
connected. Disconnect the battery
charger.
Connect a sonde to the instrument. Refer
to Connect to a PC on page 22.
Set the instrument power to on.
Install the software driver. Refer to steps
1–3 of Connect to a PC on page 22.
Replace the USB cable.
Install Hydrolab Operating Software on
the PC.
Hydrolab Operating Software cannot
communicate with a sonde through the
instrument. Connect the sonde to the PC
with a communications module.
