suitable for horizontal applications. To protect the label and to
ensure it is more easily read during use, we recommend placing
the unit on a horizontal surface with the label facing upwards. The
functionality of the device is not affected by this. Regardless of
these tests, the following must be considered when using in a
horizontal or diagonal position where there is a risk of falling over
an edge:
1. If the risk analysis, conducted before work begins, shows that
the fall edge is particularly 'sharp' and/or is 'not free from burrs', the
risk of falling over the edge must be eliminated or edge protection
must be installed.
2. The anchor point of the fall arrest block must never be below the
level of where the user is standing.
3. The angle of the edge must be at least 90°. ATTENTION: The
HSG KOMPAKT is not suitable for horizontal applications!
5.) Rescue hub (see fig. 4)
Fall arrester devices with a rescue hub also offer the possibility of
lifting the person hanging in the device or bringing them down to
the ground. To do this, open the seals on the lock pin (9) and crank
handle (6) and pull out the lock pin (9). Open the velcro fastener on
the crank (6) and fold down the handle (5). Slowly turn the crank
until the drive locks into the inside with an audible sound. The shaft
that has sprung forward (8) must close flush with the ring in front (7)
(see fig. 4), and only then will the gear wheels be fully in mesh. Now
make one complete turn in a clockwise direction in order to unlock
the blocking function of the fall arrester device. By turning the crank
in a clockwise direction, the person can now be lifted up and, by
turning in an anti-clockwise direction, let down. Please note that,
during the rescue process, the person can only be let down a
maximum of 2 m. Should it be necessary to let the person down
over longer distances, a rescue device certified according to EN
341 should be used. If the rope is fully drawn in or the person has
been let down and there is slack rope, you should not crank any
further. This may cause damage to the device. The lifting and
descending function should not be used if there is no weight (min.
30Kg) on the rope. Permanent use as a winch or device for lifting
people is prohibited.
6.) Use
6.1) Prior to using the device, it must be checked for signs of a fall,
including a visual inspection and functionality test. First of all,
inspect the unit, including the full length of the retractable lifeline,
for damage (tears, distortion, corrosion etc.). When doing so, make
sure that the lifeline easily pulls out and retracts . (Never release
and allow it to retract uncontrolled, always let it retract in a controlled
fashion). To test the locking function, give a quick and powerful tug
on the line, in order to verify that the fall arrest block locks. When
conducting a functionality test, listen out for any unusual noises
(clattering etc.). If any faults have been established, or any doubts
