Pay attention to the instructions of the respective rechargeable battery manufacturer when charging the
rechargeable batteries.
Improper use (too high charging current or incorrect polarity) can supercharge or damage the recharge-
able battery.
In the worst case the battery can explode and thereby cause considerable damage.
Keep transmitters (cellular phones, transmitters for model building, etc.) away from the charger because
the resulting transmitter radiation can disturb the charging process or damage the balancer and thereby
also the rechargeable battery.
Never connect the balancer immediately with the charger or battery after it has been taken from a cold room
to a warm one. The condensation which forms can damage the device. Allow the device to reach room tem-
perature while not connected.
If you have a reason to believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, disconnect it immedi-
ately and secure it against being operated unintentionally.
You must assume that the device is not safe to operate
- if it is visibly damaged.
- if the device no longer works.
- if the device has been stored under unfavourable conditions for a longer period of time.
- if it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
Notes on correct handling and maintenance of
LiPo batteries
Lithium polymer batteries have a far higher capacity at the same weight than traditional NiCd or NiMH
batteries. But they can soon become unusable due to deep discharge, overcharging or overload.
In this case it must be observed during charging that the charging voltage is limited to a maximum of 1C
(C=capacity), e.g. for 2100mAh to a maximum of 2.1A. If the battery's capacity is reduced due to ageing
processes or damage, the charging voltage must also be reduced. The cell voltage must not exceed
4.2V. As the cells are switched in a row in battery packs, a balancer must be used to this end. It protects
the individual cells from overcharging and ensures an even voltage level.
Discharging to below 2.5V damages the LiPo cell too. Therefore, this deep discharge must be prevented
through technical measures which prevent further power supply from 3.0V already.
During operation the maximum permissible voltage load of the battery must be observed. Always
observe the manufacturer's instructions (e.g. 2100mAh/20C battery: 20 x 2.1A = max. 42A). The perma-
nent voltage is again significantly below this level.
The battery temperature must not exceed 60°C even when under extreme loads.
