Always keep the catheter safety valve clean and the access tip on the connec-
ted tube sterile.
Take care to ensure that they do not come into contact with any un-sterile objects in order to avoid
contamination. The safety valve must be disinfected before each drainage.
While draining, make sure that the safety valve and the access tip are secure-
ly connected. Take care not to tug or pull on the connected tube.
"Take particular care to ensure that the access tip is inserted in the safety valve in a sterile manner and
make sure that the connection is secure. It can lead to contamination if the parts become disconnected
by mistake. In case this occurs, disinfect the safety valve with a new alcohol wipe and dispose of the
disconnected drainage material. Use a new sterile drainage kit to continue with the drainage. The
safety clamp can be used to prevent unintentional disconnection."
The safety valve is not contained in the drainage set but can be prescribed separately.
Preparation
The effusion fluid should be drained using a drainage set according to the prescription filled out by
your doctor. If you have not received a medical recommendation for the drainage interval or volume,
you will receive one during training.
1.
Prepare a clean, empty work space on a table or other work surface.
Please note: Place an open container nearby to dispose of used material.
2.
Disinfect your hands. We also recommend washing your hands thoroughly before disinfecting.
3. Put on the non-sterile disposable gloves.
4.
Remove the dressing covering the catheter. Carefully peel away a corrner of the dressing and pull
it slowly away from the skin, making sure that the catheter is not accidentally pulled out.
Important: Inform your doctor should you notice swelling, signs of inflammation or an accumu-
lation of fluid at the catheter exit site or incision site.
5. Take off your gloves and disinfect your hands again.
6. Open the packaging of the drainova® Reservoir Drainage Set.
7.
Open the dressing set by pulling both sides of the packaging at the top apart. Place the self-adhe-
sive film dressing to the side.
