The drainova® Catheter  /   d rainova® ArgentiC Catheter
or PleurX™ Catheter
The drainova® Catheter, drainova® ArgentiC Catheter or PleurX™ Catheter serve to drain fluid from the
chest cavity (pleural effusion*) or the peritoneal cavity (ascites*).
Your doctor has implanted this catheter so that you can independently drain the pleural effusion* or
the ascites* at home according to your needs - rendering repeated visits to hospital for puncturing
unnecessary.
The implanted part of the catheter is perforated with drainage holes, which allow the effusion to drain
out. During implantation, the polyester cuff is placed in a subcutaneous tunnel to prevent infections*.
en
The safety valve on the visable part of the catheter is generally closed, preventing both leakage of
effusion and air from entering.
Illustration of a drainova® catheter
A protective cap or a drainova® silicone cap is attached to the safety valve to protect it from contami-
nation or damage when not draining.
To drain effusion fluids use the drainova® Drainage Set or the ewimed Drainage Set. The key-lock-prin-
ciple ensures the optimal connection of the drainage sets with the safety valve.
The drainova® Catheter, drainova® ArgentiC Catheter or PleurX™ Catheter will hereinater be referred
to as "catheter".
The drainova® Reservoir Drainage Set
The drainova® Reservoir Drainage Set contains sterile material required for the safe and easy drainage
of effusion fluids with your catheter.
The drainova® Reservoir Drainage Set will hereinafter be referred to as Drainage Set.
The container found in the drainova® Reservoir Drainage Set will hereinafter be referred to as " drainova®
Reservoir".
All components contained in the set are CE labelled and have been sterilized with ethylene oxide (see
individual packaging).
