2.8 - Repeat steps 2.5 to 2.7 for the other nostril as well, trying to distribute the solution equally be-
tween the two nostrils.
2.9 - In the case of children or persons who are not self-sufficient, and in any case unable to co-ordinate
the various steps in 2.6, it is recommended that the application be carried out alternating about
every 15 seconds between the two nostrils, with pauses as necessary to expel the mucus.
2.10 - When administering drugs by aerosol, it is advisable to carry out an initial wash with saline solu-
tion to achieve more effective distribution of the drug on the nasal mucous membranes.
2.11 - When the application is finished, switch off the machine and carry out the hygienic preparation
following the instructions given in paragraph 3. hygienic preparation.
3. HYGIENIC PREPARATION
Careful hygienic preparation is extremely important for the durability and proper functioning of the
device. After use, disassemble the nasal douche with reference to the drawing (see fig A), remove the
batteries and proceed to hygienic preparation and/or sanitisation of the parts by carrying out the
following steps:
Cleaning the douche compressor body
Use only a cloth moistened with antibacterial detergent (non-abrasive and free of solvents of any kind).
ATTENTION: The douche compressor body is not protected against the penetration of liquids; there-
fore do not wash it under running water or by immersion.
Sanitisation.
Sanitise the components by choosing one of the methods provided in the table and described below.
Method A: under warm drinking water (approx. 40°C) with mild dishwashing detergent (non-abrasive).
Method B: by immersion in a solution of 50% water and 50% white vinegar. Finally, rinse thoroughly
with warm drinking water (approx. 40°C);
After sanitising the components, shake them vigorously and place them on a paper towel, or
alternatively dry them with a hot air jet (e.g. hair dryer).
Disinfection.
Disinfect the components by choosing one of the methods provided in the table and described below.
Method A: The disinfection procedure described in this paragraph is to be carried out before using
the components and is only effective on the components to be treated if every point is followed and
only if the components to be treated are sanitised beforehand. The disinfectant must be of the electro-
lytic chloride type (active ingredient: sodium hypochlorite), specific for disinfection and available in all
pharmacies.
Execution:
- Fill a container of a suitable size to hold all the individual components to be disinfected with a
solution of drinking water and disinfectant, observing the proportions indicated on the packaging
of the disinfectant.
- Completely immerse each individual component in the solution, taking care to avoid the formation
of air bubbles in contact with the components. Leave the components immersed for the period of
time indicated on the disinfectant packaging, and associated with the concentration chosen for the
preparation of the solution.
- Recover the disinfected components and rinse them thoroughly with lukewarm drinking water.
- Dispose of the solution according to the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions.
Method B: by boiling in water for 10 minutes; demineralised or distilled water is preferable to avoid
lime deposits.
After disinfecting the components, shake them vigorously and place them on a paper towel, or alter-
natively dry them with a hot air jet (e.g. hair dryer).
Sterilisation.
Sterilisation for clinical or hospital use is the responsibility of the facility performing the sterilisation
and must be carried out according to the instructions in this manual.
The sterilisation procedure described in this paragraph is only effective on treated components if it is
observed in all points and only if the components being treated are sanitised beforehand, and is vali-
dated in accordance with ISO 17665-1.
Equipment: Steam steriliser with fractionated vacuum and overpressure compliant with EN 13060.
