d. If repositioning is necessary once the patient is in the stirrups, grasp the heel of
the boot with one hand and loosen knob #2 with the other. Move the boot as
required and lock the handle.
e. For maximum patient comfort, align the foot, the knee and the hip with the
opposite shoulder. Avoid knee abduction; abduct the entire leg for maximum
site exposure. If possible, place the patient into the stirrup prior to anesthesia.
This will allow the patient to bring any discomfort to your attention. Post -
operative pain can result from improper positioning.
