d) Recalibration while performing detection
The detector has a special manual calibration feature. This means you can recalibrate while
doing a search on the wall.
By recalibrating during the search, the reference value can be reset many times. Using this
technique, will greatly improve the search success. When done correctly, wooden beams, met-
al pipes or power lines (depending on the locating mode selected) can be found much easier.
To recalibrate during detection, hold down button (6) or (8) for about 2 seconds (depending on
the currently active locate mode).
• Detector in detection mode
(Wood): button (6)
• Detector in detection mode
(Metal) / (AC): button (8)
The current reading is saved as the new reference value for detection (the reference value
means "no object in the wall" for the detector).
Example of a detection procedure
Example 1: Searching for a wooden beam behind a plasterboard wall.
• Place the detector on a spot on the wall behind which there is guaranteed not to be a beam.
Hold the detector vertically (or horizontally).
Whether the detector is held horizontally or vertically has no effect on the search.
If no such spot is known, simply perform multiple searches one at a time and always start
somewhere else. Of course, if you happen to start where there is a beam, you won't find
anything.
• Turn on the detector and select detection mode
ton (6). The detector has now saved the current value as a reference value. The green LED
should shine, there should be no or few bars in the bar graph, and the signal strength is
close to 0%.
• Move the detector to the left/right or up/down along the wall (not lifting it off the wall), depend-
ing on where you want to locate the wooden beam.
• If the detector detects deviations from the reference value, either the yellow LED (weak
signal) or the red LED (strong signal) will shine. In addition, you will hear a continuous beep.
The red LED will flash if the deviation from the reference value is to strong and you will hear
a beep (in which case, recalibrate in an area where the yellow LED shines, as described
below).
• To better isolate the position of the wooden beam, place the detector on the wall so that the
yellow LED shines or the bar graph is approximately in the middle (medium signal strength).
Do not remove the detector from the wall! Now recalibrate by holding down the button (6)
for 2 seconds.
The green LED should shine, there should be no or few bars in the bar graph, and the signal
strength should be close to 0%.
• Continue the search by moving the detector further to the left/right or up/down the wall.
• You could also perform a recalibration as described above.
• In this way, the position of the wooden beam can be narrowed down even further.
If you want to start again with a "rough" setting, turn off the detector and start all over
again!
Example 2: The search of a metal beam behind a plasterboard wall.
The procedure corresponds to that described in Example 1. However, instead of using but-
ton (6), use button (8).
Perform material moisture measurement
• Two metal pins (9) are located behind a cover (10) for measuring material moisture. The
cover can be easily removed from the detector.
There may be two small plastic covers on the metal pins when the product is
shipped. Remove these before measuring.
After the measuring and cleaning the metal pins, reattach the plastic caps; then re-
place the cover (10).
Briefly press the button (7). The display shows a droplet sym-
bol
(J) and SCAN and the symbol
Hold the pins against the surface to be measured. If necessary,
push the pins slightly into the surface, but do not use force! In
the example on the right, the residual moisture is measured on a
piece of wood. The display shows the humidity value; measure-
ments are being carried out continuously.
If the reading needs to be stored temporarily for easier reading,
briefly press the button (7).
The display message SCAN disappears from the display, instead
the symbol
(G) appears. You can now remove the detector
from the measuring surface and read the message.
To continue measuring, briefly press the button (7). The symbol
SCAN is once again displayed.
If you need to stop the material moisture measurement and require detection, briefly
switch the detector off and on again.
(Wood) by briefly pressing the but-
.
(G) will disappear and
Tips and information
• By recalibrating during the search, the reference value can be reset many times. Using this
technique, will greatly improve the search success. When done correctly, wooden beams,
metal pipes or power lines (depending on the locating mode selected) can be found much
easier.
• The detector mainly detects wooden beams, metal pipes and power lines (with mains/AC
voltage).
• Plastic water pipes may also be detected, as water or air in the pipes is recognised as alter-
ing the "normal" quality of the wall. The same applies to plastic drainpipes or other cavities
in a wall.
• To find power lines property, the current must be on.
Current-free power lines can only be detected in the "metal" detection mode. Owing to the
relatively thin copper wires, only limited detection is possible.
Please note: The "AC voltage" detection mode is used to find conductors that carry mains
voltage. Power lines with low voltages or DC voltage are not detected.
• Metal foil-coated insulating material will prevent detection of metal pipes or power lines lo-
cated behind such material.
• The maximum detection depth and recognition quality depends on the type of material and
the size of the object. Larger objects can also be located at greater depths than smaller ones.
• If the red LED flashes and a beep is heard, it indicates an override (excessive deviation from
the reference value). Simply perform a recalibration.

Maintenance and cleaning

The product is maintenance-free for you; you should never dismantle it (except for inserting or
replacing the batteries as described in these operating instructions). Servicing or repair may
only be carried out by a specialist.
Use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these can
cause discolouration.
Disposal
a) Product
Electronic devices are recyclable and do not belong in the household waste. Dis-
pose of an unserviceable device in accordance with the relevant statutory regula-
tions.
Remove the inserted battery and dispose of it separately from the product.
b) Batteries and rechargeable batteries
As an end user, you are required by law (battery ordinance) to return all used batteries and
rechargeable batteries; it is not permitted to dispose of batteries with normal household waste.
Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing hazardous substances are labelled with
these symbols to indicate that their disposal in household waste is forbidden. The
designations for the heavy metals involved are: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb =
lead.
Used batteries, rechargeable batteries and coin cells can be returned to collection points in
your municipality, our stores or wherever batteries/rechargeable batteries/coin cells are sold.
That way you fulfil your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environ-
ment!
