Problem: Pump does not prime or priming time is very long
Possible cause
Pre-filter is not filled with
water.
Air is being drawn in.
Contamination of the
strainer baskets in the
skimmer and pre-filter.
Lid of the pre-filter is not
screwed on tightly.
Suction line very high
above water level.
Shut-off valve in suction
and pressure line closed.
No self-priming pump
being used.
Problem: Pump output is not high enough
Possible cause
Filter dirty
Shut-off valve in the unit closed 
Pipe too long/suction side too
high
Suction line leaks - air is drawn
in
Problem: Pump is too loud
Possible cause
Debris in the pump.

Solution
 Fill to min. height of inlet
connection.
 Suction line has to be free of
leaks; Water level up to middle
of skimmer opening.
 Clean the strainer baskets.
 Tighten.
 Install non-return valve.
 Open.
Install a non-return valve at the

suction side.
Solution
 Backwash.
Open.
Modify.

 Seal.
Solution
 Clean the impeller and
casing.
