There may be a slight amount of drip leakage during the running-in
period. However, a weekly visual inspection is required. If there is
clearly detectable leakage, the seal is to be changed. Salmson offers a
repair kit which contains the necessary parts for replacement.
To change/dismantle the mechanical seal for pumps with a one-piece
shaft, please refer to Fig. 1/2:
• Disconnect the system from the power and secure it against being
switched on.
• Close the shut-off valves in front of and behind the pump.
• Dismantle the motor as described in chapter 9.1.1 "Changing the
motor (pump version with one-piece shaft)" on page 39.
• Remove the circlip (Item 7) from the shaft.
• Remove the impeller (Item 2) from the shaft.
• Remove the spacer ring (Item 6) from the shaft.
• Remove the mechanical seal (Item 5) from the shaft.
• Push the counter ring of the mechanical seal out of seating in the
motor flange and then clean the seating surfaces.
• Clean the seating surfaces of the shaft carefully.
