Maintenance and repair
General maintenance
• Keep area around pump clean Clean off
filling port area prior to filling reservoir
Clean area around filler after filling as
lubricants will attract dirt
• Keep lubricants clean and free of dirt
and debris
System malfunction
• Refer to Troubleshooting (page 15) to
determine where to look if problems occur
• Refer to corresponding sections for
replacement and repair of specific areas
• Each part is identified with a number
keyed to a matching part on
illustrated views
• General recommendations of tools
required are also specified in each step
• Pay particular attention to warning state-
ments to prevent personal injury and pos-
sible damage to pump components
Outlet check service
Refer to Troubleshooting (page 15) to
determine if outlet check valve (4) is
cause of failure
Pump will not build up sufficient lubricant
pressure if outlet check (4) is fouled († Fig. 3
and Fig. 4, page 10) Foreign material may
lodge beneath check ball (45) or between
check disc (43) and seat (44) of bushing
assembly (42) Sealing surfaces of seat must
form a perfect seal Clean parts or replace if
pitted, worn or scored
1 Turn off and disconnect electric power
supply to pump assembly (17)
2 Standard tools required are bench
mounted vice, a set of open end
/
wrenches ranging from
7
large 24 in (600 mm) adjustable wrench
and smaller 10 in (254 mm) adjustable
wrench
3 Remove elbow (5) and hose (6)
4 Remove outlet check assembly (4) and
adapter (3) by loosening adapter from
tee (1)
5 Remove adapter (3) from outlet check
assembly (4)
6 Remove outlet connector (47) from
bushing (42)
7 Remove ball check seat (44) from outlet
connector (47)
8 Pull check disk assembly (43) out of ball
check seat (44)
9 Remove and discard gaskets (41 and 46)
10 Clean and inspect all check components
(42, 43, 44, and 45) for scoring, damage
or any foreign material
11 Replace any damaged components of
outlet check assembly (4) Replace gas-
kets (41 and 46)
Reverse above procedure to reassemble
Torque check assembly to 100 ft-lbf
(135 Nm)

Follower
(MSO equipped)*
If follower foam appears to be damaged or
does not wipe sides of reservoir effectively
service may be necessary († Fig. 5, page 10
and Fig. IPB 2, page 13)
1 Disconnect electric supply from pump
2 Remove bolts (9), eyebolts (16) and lock
washers (10) which attach cover (14) to
reservoir (19)
3 Lift pump (17), vent valve (31) and drum
cover out of reservoir
4 Remove follower assembly (40) from
reservoir assembly
5 Wipe off excess grease from follower
to 1

6 Loosen and remove nuts (67) on top of
follower assembly
7 Remove weighted follower plate (66) and
follower foam (68)
8 Replace with new foam
9 Remove and save spacers (69) from
inside of foam before discarding foam
Reverse above procedure to re-assemble
making sure long bolts (71) are staggered
with small ones (70)
