opening (10/2) until the cap contacts the filler
opening neck (do not screw in) and remove it
again.
5. Check that the level is between the MIN (10/3) and
MAX (10/4) marks.
6. When the oil level is near or below the MIN mark
(10/3): Fill with oil see chapter 4.2.2 "Filling with
engine oil (04, 11)".
7. Insert the oil dipstick and screw tight.
8. Remove any spilled oil.
4.2.2. FILLING wITH ENGINE OIL (04, 11)
Oil recommendations
Engine oil is a decisive factor for the performance
and lifetime of the engine.
• Use a detergent engine oil that meets the
requirements for API service class SF or higher (or
equivalent).
• Check the API service label on the oil container in
order to ensure that the letters SF or those of a
higher (or equivalent) class are present.
• SAE 15W-40 is recommended for general use. The
recommended operating temperature range for
this oil is 5°C to 38°C.
IMPORTANT! Danger of engine damage. Using SAE
15W-40 oil (monograde summer oil) at temperatures
lower than +5°C may cause engine damage due to
insufficient lubrication.
• Use SAE 15W-40 for the temperature range from
0°C to 40°C.
• The use of multi-grade oils can result in a higher
consumption at higher temperatures. Therefore
check the oil level more frequently.
• Do not mix oils of different grades and with
different properties.
Filling with oil
NOTE Do not fill oil level above MAX. Too much oil
will cause:
• Smoke in the exhaust
• Contamination of the spark plug or the air filter
TECH 124-140 (04)
NOTE The oil capacity for the engine is max. 0.45 l.
1. Fill engine oil into a suitable container.
2. Remove the oil dipstick (04/1) from the oil filler
opening (04/2).
3. Add oil slowly and in small quantities into the
oil filler opening. using a funnel.
4. Insert and lock the oil dipstick.
5. Remove any spilled oil.
TECH 160 (11)
NOTE The oil capacity for the engine is max. 0.5 l.
1. Fill engine oil into a suitable container.
2. Remove the oil dipstick (11/1) from the oil filler
opening (11/2).
3. Add oil slowly and in small quantities into the oil
filler opening.
4. Insert the oil dipstick and screw tight.
5. Remove any spilled oil.

4.2.3. FILLING wITH pETROL (01, 08)

Recommendations regarding petrol
• Use clean, fresh, lead-free petrol with a minimum
GLM 40/124 P EASY - GLM 42/124 SP EASY -
GLM 46/140 SP PLUS - GLM 51/160 SP PLUS
octane rating of 90.
• Buy fuel in quantities that can be consumed within
30 days.
• Petrol with up to 10% ethanol is acceptable.
• Do not mix petrol with oil.
• Only start and allow the engine to run outdoors.
FIllING WITh PETROl
1. Remove the tank cap (01/3) or (08/3).
2. Fill the tank up to the lower edge of the oil filler
pipe. Do not overfill.
3. Screw the tank cap (01/3) or (08/3) on firmly again.

5. OpERATING THE ENGINE

For further information: refer to the lawnmower's
operating instructions.
DANGER! Risk of poisoning. The engine exhaust
gases contain carbon monoxide that can kill a person
within a few minutes.
• Only start and operate the engine in the open air.
• Never operate the engine in enclosed areas even
with the windows and doors open.
• Do not inhale the engine exhaust gases.
• Switch off the engine if you feel nauseous, dizzy
or weak during use. Immediately consult a doctor.
WARNING! Danger of explosion and fire.
Petrol and oil are highly flammable. Fire can lead to
serious injuries.
• Never use starter spay or similar.
WARNING! Danger of burns. Engines become very
hot in operation!
• Never touch parts of the engine, in particular the
exhaust.
• Allow the exhaust, cylinder and cooling vanes to
cool down before contact.
WARNING! Danger from rotating appliance parts!
Reaching into rotating appliance parts will result in
serious injuries!
• Never reach into rotating parts.
• Before starting to use the engine, observe the
operating instructions for the appliance.
• Only start and allow the engine to run outdoors.
• Do not operate the engine in inclined positions
with an angle of more than 15°.
• Only start the engine in the horizontal position.
• Do not tilt the machine so far to the side that fuel
runs out of the fuel tank cap.
• Check the oil level.
• Tie up long hair and remove jewellery.
• Do not wear loose clothing.
• Wear sturdy, non-slip shoes.
• Do not change the basic setting of the engine or
over-rev.
• Keep the safety distance when starting.
• Switch off the engine and allow to cool down
before removing the tank cap.
• Switch off the engine, allow it to cool and remove
the spark plug cable before checking, cleaning or
working on the machine or engine.
• Wait until the engine has cooled down sufficiently
before touching the cylinder ribs and protective
housing.
• Do not rotate the engine without a spark plug.
