1 Applications

The 2-channel mixer MPX-1/VCA with VCA faders is
suitable for any private or professional DJ applica-
tions. It allows connection of up to two units with line
level (e. g. CD player), up to two turntables, and a DJ
microphone. The unit offers prefader listening to the
two stereo channels via headphones and modification
of the fade-in/fade-out behaviour of the faders (3 se-
lectable adjustments for the channel faders, continu-
ous adjustment for the crossfader).
The mixer can either be placed as desired or be
installed into a console.

2 Operating Elements and Connections

1 Volume control for a DJ microphone connected to
the jack MIC (14)
2 Power switch of the mixer with power LED
3 LED VU-meter
4 Input selector switches for channels 1 and 2: for
switching between the input LINE (20) and the
input PHONO (21) of the corresponding channel
5 Gain controls for adjusting the input amplification of
channels 1 and 2
6 Treble controls for channels 1 and 2
7 Bass controls for channels 1 and 2
8 Switches for selecting the characteristic for the
faders (9) of channels 1 and 2:
position "SMOOTH" (normal adjustment)
smooth fade-in/fade-out of the channel signal
over the entire control range of the fader
position "FAST"
hard fade-in/fade-out of the channel signal in the
lower third of the control range of the fader
position "FLAT"
hard fade-in/fade-out of the channel signal in the
upper third of the control range of the fader
9 Level controls (faders) for channels 1 and 2
10 Assignment switch for the PFL feature (prefader
listening): according to the position of the switch,
channel 1 or channel 2 can be monitored via head-
phones connected to the jack PHONES (16)
11 Crossfader for crossfading between channels 1
and 2
12 Reverse switch (with reverse LED above the switch)
for the crossfading feature: for selecting the side of
the crossfader (11) to which channels 1 and 2 are
switched
switch left; reverse LED green
channel 1 left, channel 2 right
switch right, reverse LED red
channel 2 left, channel 1 right
13 Volume control for headphones connected to the
jack PHONES (16)
14 6.3 mm jack (unbal.) for connecting a DJ micro-
phone
15 Control for continuously adjusting the characteris-
tic of the crossfader (11)
control at the left stop ("N" – normal):
smooth crossfading (gradual transition)
control at the right stop ("F" – fast)
hard crossfading (abrupt transition)
16 6.3 mm jack for connecting stereo headphones
(impedance ≥ 8 Ω)
17 Connection jack for the supplied plug-in power
supply unit
18 Phono output jacks REC for connecting a sound
recorder
19 Phono output jacks AMP for connecting an ampli-
fier
20 Phono input jacks LINE for channels 1 and 2 for
connecting units with line level (e. g. CD player,
tape deck, minidisk recorder)
21 Phono input jacks PHONO for channels 1 and 2 for
connecting turntables with magnetic system
22 Ground clamping screw GND for connected turn-
tables

3 Safety Notes

The mixer and the supplied plug-in power supply unit
correspond to the directive for electromagnetic com-
patibility 89/336/EEC. The power supply unit also cor-
responds to the low voltage directive 73/23/EEC.
Attention! The plug-in power supply unit is supplied
with hazardous mains voltage (230 V~).
Leave servicing to skilled personnel only.
Inexpert handling may cause an electric
shock hazard. Furthermore, any guaran-
tee claim will expire if the power supply
unit or the mixer has been opened.
Please observe the following items in any case:
The mixer and the plug-in power supply unit are
suitable for indoor use only. Protect them against
dripping water and splash water, high air humidity,
and heat (admissible ambient temperature range
0 – 40 °C).
Even with the mixer switched off, the power supply
unit connected to a mains socket has a low current
consumption.
Do not operate the mixer or immediately disconnect
the power supply unit from the mains socket
1. if there is visible damage to the mixer or to the
power supply unit,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit was
dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the units must be repaired by skilled per-
sonnel.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.
No liability for any damage will be accepted if the
mixer or the power supply unit is used for other pur-
poses than originally intended, if it is not correctly
connected or operated or not repaired in an expert
way.
