Typically in warmer climates, the RPRV valve (fl ash or medium pressure valve) tends to work at high opening
percentages for an extended time, which means medium temperature compressors do more work and
operate at a high suction-discharge pressure diff erence.
The use of a compressor, or group of compressors, installed between the receiver and medium temperature
compressor, as shown in Figure 1.a, off ers the following advantages:
•
reduced use of the RPRV valve;
•
higher effi ciency due to high pressure in the gas cooler;
•
higher effi ciency at high outside temperatures.
