Assembly
June 1999
Thread the main body of the turnbuckle onto the
threaded stud.
Tip: Check the length of the foil. Thread the turnbuckle to the correct
length. Slide the drum assembly down the foils so the foil gap aligns
with the torque tube window and the spring tangs line up with the
clevis pin. There should be at least 1" (25 mm) of clearance above
the foil.
■ Stepping the Mast; Adjusting Turnbuckle
Make sure you have the special clevis pin set to match
your chainplate pin hole size. See page 10 - 11.
Use line to make sure the turnbuckle does not slip into
the drum assembly when stepping the mast. Run line
through the tang holes in the furler and through the
opening in the turnbuckle. This can also prevent the
drum assembly from accidentally slipping off smaller
turnbuckles such as those for

Attach the upper end of the unit to the mast. Raise the
unit and connect the jaw of the turnbuckle to the chain-
plate using the special clevis pin. Secure by bending cot-
ter pin against clevis pin.
is pins require special spacers. Install the spacer by run-
ning cotter pin through spacer and pin. Bend cotter pin
in against pin.
Adjust the turnbuckle to the correct length. Use a
wrench to keep the stud from turning to avoid damage
to the wire. If the stud has no wrench flats, use a needle
nose vise grip pliers to hold the stud. Lock the turn-
buckle using cotter pins or locknut.
The headstay must be tight for proper operation of the
furling unit.
Tip: Use halyard to hold the furling unit raised while adjusting
headstay.
