Draw the aileron servo extension leads through the wings, and place the prepared
servo mounts in the wing recesses; note that the slots for the servo output arms
should face the wing root. Now drill 1.5 mm Ø holes in the wing recesses for the
servo mount retaining screws, and install the servos permanently. The aileron horns
are assembled from the parts shown in the photo. Screw in the M3 screws as far as
the bottom edge of the aluminium sleeves: this gives the correct horn length.
Use a setsquare and a felt-tip pen to mark the position of the horns on the ailerons;
the pushrods should run parallel to the servo case sides. Drill blind 6 mm Ø holes in
the ailerons to accept the threaded sleeves which form the horn bases. Note that the
flange of the threaded sleeve (12 mm Ø) should rest squarely on the face of the
aileron. We recommend that you clamp a collet on the drill bit at the appropriate
point, as shown in the photo, to avoid drilling right through the ailerons.
The horns can now be glued in place; it is important that the flange of the threaded
sleeve should make good contact with the surface of the aileron. Note that the
covering film must be removed over the area of the sleeve flange.
Allow the glue to set hard, then assemble the aileron linkages. Screw a locknut and a
clevis onto the threaded end of the pushrod (2 mm Ø, one threaded end). Connect
the clevis to the horn, and set the aileron and servo to neutral. Mark the point on the
pushrod where it crosses the linkage hole in the servo output arm, and bend the
pushrod at right-angles at that point.
Shorten the pushrod in such a way that about 1.5 mm of rod projects when the plastic
retainer clip is in place.
If you find that the bend in the pushrod is not quite positioned correctly, you can
make minor corrections by screwing the clevis in or out.
The landing flaps are attached to the wings using the special offset hinges supplied,
as shown in the following photographs. Ensure that the gaps at both ends of the flap
are the same width.
Each flap is attached to the wing using three offset hinges. It is best to tape the flap
to the wing temporarily before screwing the hinges in place; take care to set the flap
in its retracted position, butting up against the wing at the flap leading edge, before
installing the hinges. Mark the position of the horn on the flap, referring to the
dimensions stated in the photo.
Glue the horns in the flaps using the procedure already described for the ailerons.
Assemble and install the flap linkages when the glue has set hard.
The tailplane panels
The mounting frames must first be glued to the inside of the servo mounting plates so
that the servos can be screwed to them.
