The tailplane and fin can now be glued in the slots in the fuselage. While the glue is
still wet, align the panels as previously described, and pin them in place to prevent
them shifting.
Allow the glue to set hard, then attach the tailwheel unit to the fuselage together with
the tailplane brace bracket. The parts should be fixed to the fuselage as shown in the
photo; note that the pivot axis of the tailwheel unit must line up with the pivot axis of
the rudder.
Locate the plastic bracket which acts as a driver for the tailwheel. Fit it on the
underside of the rudder and screw it in place, as shown in the photo. Fit the
projecting end of the tailwheel unit through the cross-hole in the plastic driver, and
screw the tailwheel unit to the fuselage permanently.
The tailplane braces can now be installed as shown in the photos: glue the
aluminium threaded sockets in the tailplane, fit the brass screws in them, and align
the parts as shown. Screw a plastic clevis onto each of the threaded bracing rods.
Measure off the correct length of the rods and bend the ends at right-angles. Shorten
the angled end to the point where it projects out of the retaining clip by about 1.5 mm.
Adjust the length of the bracing rods so that they can be connected easily, without
placing any component under strain.
The next step is to glue the hinges in the control surfaces, leaving half of their length
projecting. This is best done by pushing the hinge into the slot to a depth of about 1
mm, applying a little cyano to both sides, then pressing the hinge in to the half-way
point.
The two elevators have to be linked using the steel joiner. Glue the joiner in the holes
in both elevators using epoxy. Lay both panels flat on the building board while the
glue hardens, otherwise there is a chance that they will not line up correctly with each
other.
The control surfaces should now be attached to the tailplane, the fin and the wings by
gluing the projecting hinges into the fixed panels.
It is essential to attach the elevators to the tailplane before you attach the
rudder to the fin.
Ensure that you leave a gap about 1 mm wide between the fixed panel and the
control surface.
Allow the glue to set hard, then attach the horns to the control surfaces. Note that the
linkage holes must line up with the hinge pivot axis.
You will need to relieve the rudder horn slightly to allow full travel to both sides of
centre.
