Trim the motor mount cover to fit, and glue it in place as shown.
Use tape to hold the parts tightly together while the glue is hardening.
Glue triangular wooden fillets to the inside joints between the motor mount and the
nose bulkhead to strengthen this highly-stressed area.
Connect the speed controller to the motor, and check that the shaft spins in the
correct direction. The speed controller can be attached to the plate aft of the nose
bulkhead using double-sided foam tape.
The receiver should be wrapped in soft shock-absorbing foam, Order No. 1665, and
mounted on the bottom of the fuselage in front of the servo plate.
The cowl is fitted by sliding it onto the fuselage to the point where it rests against the
motor mount at the front. In this position mark and drill the holes for the cowl retaining
screws through the cowl and the fuselage sides, at a point about 25 mm forward of
the rear edge of the cowl. Fit the cowl retaining screws.
At this stage the individual name placards can be cut out of the decal sheets and
applied to the model in the arrangement shown in the kit box illustration.
Assembling the EXTRA 300 S
Attach the flight battery to the mounting plate using Velcro pads and a Velcro cable
tie.
Balance the model correctly, then mark the position of the flight battery on the
mounting plate using a pencil. Always check that the transmitter throttle stick is at the
"OFF" end-point before you connect the speed controller to the flight battery.
We suggest that you permanently connect a pair of 180 mm extension leads to the
appropriate receiver sockets (2 and 5) to make it easier to connect the two aileron
servos when you rig the model.
Slide the wing joiner tube into the outer sleeve in the fuselage to the point where the
two aileron servos can be connected. Now slide the wings fully onto the joiner tube
and fit the four plastic screws to hold the wings against the fuselage sides. Tighten
the screws just to the point where the wings are firmly seated; take care not to over-
tighten them.
Place the canopy on the fuselage and secure it with the two screws provided.
Balancing the EXTRA 300 S
Support the model on both sides of the fuselage at a point about 100 mm aft of the
wing root leading edge; this works best with the model held inverted. When the CG
position is correct, the model will balance level, with the nose inclined slightly down. If
necessary you can correct the CG by adjusting the position of the flight battery
