6.6 Level of pumped liquid
Do not let the pump run dry.
The level of the pumped liquid must be controlled by level
FM
switches connected to the motor control circuit.
Install an additional level switch to ensure that the pump is
stopped in case the stop level switch is not working.
Explosion-proof SL pumps, installation type S, must
always be completely submerged in the pumped liquid to
the top of the motor. See fig.Liquid levels, level 1.

For explosion-proof SE pumps, installation type C, the
pump casing must always be completely covered by the
pumped liquid. See fig.Liquid levels, level 2.
For a short period, the pump may be used to pump down
the liquid level to remove the float layer. For explosion-
proof pumps, do not let it go below the stop levels shown
in fig. Liquid levels.
To ensure adequate motor cooling, the following minimum
requirements must be met:
•
Installation type S: the pump must be completely submerged
in the pumped liquid to the top of the motor. See fig.Liquid
levels, level 1.
•
Installation type C: the pump casing must be completely
covered by the pumped liquid. See fig.Liquid levels, level 2

Installation types D and H: there are no special requirements
for the level of the pumped liquid.
