2).
• ENERGY SAVING: Activate/deactivate automatic battery
energy saving (ref. menu number 2).
• PGM SECURITY: PGM PIN code security mode selection.
Refer to the paragraph "THE PIN CODE" for details regard-
ing the management of this function.
Press "ENT" to confirm the settings, press "ESC" to cancel and
retain the previous settings.
THE PIN CODE
ATTENTION! All PGM486's are provided with PIN codes not-
withstanding the security settings. The PIN code is a number
between 0 and 4294967295 which can be modified by the
user as many times as required, remembering that:
• If you press "ENT" when a message asks you to insert a
PIN code (without typing in a code) the inserted number
will be 0.
• The default PIN code setting is 0.
• The PIN is only visible when you are modifying it. In all other occasions the
number will be replaced by the symbol "
• You cannot verify a PIN code registered inside the Palm memory. If the PIN
code is enabled as a user password and you forget it you will no longer be
able to access the PGM486.
• The Palm can only read code memory not protected by a PIN or memory
modules that have the same PIN code as the Palm itself.
• If you change the Palm PIN code you will no longer be able to read already programmed memory modules (i.e. those containing the
old PIN code). To read those memory modules you will have to re-insert the old PIN code or remove by inserting another.
• We advise you to set a personal PIN code and to write it down somewhere safe even if you are not using it as a Palm user password.
In this way even if you modify the security management PIN later on you will not have to alter previous installations because the PIN will
be different.
PIN SECURITY LEVEL SELECTION
A-NONE
The PIN can be used as a security code to deny access to the PGM486 functions and impede memory tampering
B-PGM
by unauthorised personnel. The settings can be chosen by selecting the field PGM SECURITY, which allows the
C-CODE MEMORY
following four combinations:
D-PGM+MEMORY
• NONE: All PIN code security functions are deactivated. You can use the PGM486 as soon as you switch it on, without inserting any
access codes. The memory modules can be freely accessed by any PGM.
• PGM: Only activates the function that uses the PIN code as a "security access code" for operating the Palm. The memory modules
will remain unprotected.
• CODE MEMORY: Only activates the function which automatically marks the memory modules which will be manipulated. This func-
tion does not give general access protection for the Palm.
• PGM+MEMORY: General access protection and code memory protection are both active.
ATTENTION! Seeing as the correct choice for each type of use is important, each time the setting is modified a specific message will appear
accompanied by a series of "beeps". Press "ENT" to memorise the setting. Press "ESC" to cancel the modifications.
