9 - USEFUL LIFE

The useful life of a PPE composed mainly of metal is considered to be unlimited.
However, as the energy absorber is a textile strap, its useful life is 10 years, starting
from the date of manufacture. Beyond this limit, the PPE must be withdrawn from
service and sent for maintenance by an authorised person (technician trained
by the manufacturer). However the following factors may reduce the product's
performance and useful life:
incorrect storage and/or incorrect use (failure to follow the instructions in this
manual), mechanical distortion, contact with chemical products (acids, basics,
solvents etc.), exposure to sources of intense heat > 60°C.
To extend the useful life of your device, you are advised not to:
• release the cable when it is completely paid out, but to feed it back into the fall
protection mechanism (See Fig. 5)
• allow the cable to feed out when not in use.
• handle the device violently or submit it to impacts.
• expose the lifeline to bad weather.
• bend the retractable cable
