3. PREPARATION OF THE ARTIFICIAL CHAMBER BEFORE THE OPERATION
1. Insert a single-use blade of chosen diameter in the
trephine (in certain cases it may be necessary to use an
oversized blade - 0.25mm extra - for cutting the graft).
2. Select the maximum incision depth (1.2mm) on the
trephine for complete perforation.
3. Remove the retaining ring (BA) by loosening the locking
collar (BB) (clockwise) in the artificial chamber (BF
=loosening of the ring; BG = chamber without ring).
4. Apply visco-elastic to the graft endothelium. The graft
is then centered on the support (BC), endothelial side
facing downwards.
5. Cover the graft support (BC) by installing the retaining
ring (BA) on the support block (BD).
6. Lock the retaining ring on the graft (BA) using the
locking collar (BB) – counter-clockwise. The ring (BA)
must be held when closing the locking collar (BB).
7. Fill the chamber with liquid (such as BSS™ or saline
solution) through the irrigation tube in order to obtain
adequate pressure (approximately 50mmHg). Expel the
air bubbles under the graft by opening and then closing
the purge tap (BH) on the retaining ring (BA).

4. TREPHINATION

1. Place the pre-calibrated Hanna trephine (BI) on the
retaining ring (BA) in the artificial chamber (BJ),
provided for this purpose.
2. Cut the graft (in the same way as the recipient' cornea.
3. Remove the trephine from its support.
4. Stop injecting the liquid.
5. Grasp the retaining ring (BA) and unlock the ring (BB).
6. Remove the retaining ring (BA) from its support.
7. Remove the graft and protect it (before surgery).

5. TROUBLESHOOTING

In the event of suction problems
o
Check the integrity of the seal, as well as the correct functioning of the purge screw and its seal.
o
Check that the retaining ring is correctly maintained by the locking collar.

:
PRECAUTIONS
Before placing the graft on its support, it is recommended
to fill the chamber with liquid (e.g.: BSS™ - registered
trademark from Alcon® or saline solution) in order to leave
as little air as possible during step no. 7.
PRECAUTIONS
Check that the trephine is correctly pressed into the
retaining ring (metal against metal). There is no need to
apply suction during incision.
