3. PREPARATION BEFORE THE OPERATION

Ensure that the Hanna Trephine and its various elements are at room temperature before
use.
Adjustment of the incision depth:
1. Remove the suction cone (C) by unscrewing it from the
main body of the trephine (D).
2. Check that the blade support (E) is in counter-clockwise
position.
a) Unlock the adjustment knob (F) by pulling gently (G),
turn 90° so it is aligned and can fit between the rails (H),
then leave the plate at the base of the adjustment knob
in the setting position (I).
b) Turn counter-clockwise until feeling resistance on the
adjustment knob. You are now in «retracted» position.
c) Lock the adjustment knob: reverse procedure in a)
realign the base of the adjustment knob between the
rails, lift up and turn 90° again in the opposite direction
in order to lock in upper position.
3. Use the key (B) to turn the ratchet collar (J). Turn
clockwise to increase the incision depth (K): values
from 0 to 1.2mm (that is 1200 µm). Note: the display (L)
shows the figures from 0 to 12.
Inserting the blade :
1. Turn the trephine blade locking ring counter-clockwise
(M).
2. Insert the 3 small prongs on the blade into the 3 notches
(N: blade unlocked).
3. Lock the blade by turning the ring clockwise (O: blade
locked).
Verification that the trephine is working correctly:
1. Screw the suction cone (C) onto the main body of the
trephine (D).
2. Attach the end of the silicon suction tubing to the hole in
the suction cone (S). Fix the other end to a 50cc syringe
(T).
3. Inspect the blade under a microscope.
4. Unlock the adjustment knob and turn it clockwise. The
blade should move down to the chosen depth. When
this depth is reached, you will feel resistance on the
adjustment knob. It will continue to turn in order to
complete the cut, but the trephine blade will not move
down any further.
5. Withdraw the trephine blade completely (counter-
clockwise) and lock the adjustment knob. The trephine
is now ready for use.
ACTIONS
PRECAUTIONS
OPERATION TO BE CARRIED OUT BEFORE INSERTING
THE BLADE (to avoid any risk of cuts and/or damaging
the cutting edge of the blade)
Never turn beyond number «12» (risk of significantly
damaging the system).
Setting the ratchet collar between two numbers, increases
the incision depth by 50µm. Example: if the setting is
between 5 and 6
depth of 0.55mm, or 550 µm.
The ratchet collar (J) cannot turn 360°. To return to «0»,
it must be turned counter-clockwise until the number «0»
appears.
For blades with a diameter greater than 8.5mm, use the
disassembly key (A) to remove the internal support ring (P)
from the suction cone. (See photos of unscrewing internal
support ring (Q) and the procedure. (R)). This enables
visualization of the lowering of the larger blades.
Please ensure that
the silicon tubing (U) is in good
condition. We recommend replacing the tubing after each
operation (references: #205 for one meter of silicon tube or
#205B for a 15m reel of silicon tube).
Any blade presenting a defect that may jeopardize the
cutting performance must not be used.
