V. CLEANING AND STERILIZATION
The recommendations for cleaning, disinfection and sterilization are updated and available on Moria's
website: http://www.moria-surgical.com.
1.
Disassembly: The device must be completely disassembled before decontamination and cleaning
operations.
2.
Disinfection: Immerse the individual parts as quickly as possible after surgery in a decontaminating
solution (pre-disinfectant alkaline detergent) for at least 15 min.
3.
Rinsing: Rinse the device thoroughly with water below 30°C/86°F.
4.
Cleaning: Use an ultrasound tank. Place the various parts in separate plastic tanks so as not to
bring them in direct contact with the walls of the tank. Leave them in the tanks for approximately 10
minutes.
5.
Drying: Whichever cleaning method is used, the instruments must be perfectly dry before further
use, in order to avoid any recontamination.
6.
Sterilization: The device can be autoclave sterilized cycle up to 134°C (273°F)/18 min.
7.
Storage: Store in an appropriate, dry place.
For optimal cleaning of the trephine: Clean the trephine and the suction hole with distilled water at a
temperature below 30°C/86°F. Ensure that no debris remains. Disassemble the black part of the guide
(W) with the disassembly key (A) - see photo of unscrewing (X). Then clean the various parts with a soft
toothbrush.
For optimal cleaning of the punch: Unscrew the nut located under the base in order to separate the
Teflon® disc and the silicon tube before any cleaning operations.
Note concerning NCTA: for France, follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health concerning
the deactivation of NCTA (DGS/5 C/DHOS/E 2 n° 2001-138 du 14/03/01). Moria does not recommend
chemical inactivation using BLEACH. Only inactivation using CAUSTIC SODA is recommended for
rustproof materials and titanium. The punch block as well as the artificial chamber withstand inactivation
using caustic soda. For the Hanna trephine, only the suction cone withstands inactivation using caustic
soda.
In the case of decontamination using caustic soda, ensure thorough and prolonged rinsing of
the device with distilled water. Insufficient rinsing (remains of caustic soda) can seriously
damage the cornea.
