III. PUNCH BLOCK
1. PUNCH BLOCK DESCRIPTION #17169
Teflon® stand (AA) with a Teflon® graft well (AB),
Cylindrical guide (AC),
0.9mm (or 19 gauge) silicon tube (AD) + Luer connection,
Cutting system consisting of a cylinder (AE) and a locking ring (AF) at the end to secure the
trephine blade.

(mounted device)
3. PREPARATION OF THE PUNCH BEFORE THE OPERATION
Ensure that the punch base unit and its various elements are at room temperature before use.
Ensure that the revolving nut is tight. The Teflon® well (AO) should be secure and even with
the metal surface prior to punching.
1. Center the donor cornea, epithelial side down, on the
Teflon® well. The epithelium is thus in contact with the
Teflon® well.
2. Attach the silicon tube (Luer on the end - AG) to a 50cc
syringe. Pull back on the plunger of the syringe to create
a vacuum, flattening the donor cornea onto the well.
3. Inspect the single-use trephine blade under a
microscope.
4. Mount the blade on the end (AF) :
4 -1 turn the locking ring to the open position (counter-
clockwise) (AH),
4 -2 place the prongs of the blade onto the 3 markers
(AK) (photo blade unlocked AI),
4 -3 lock the ring (clockwise). The blade is locked in
position (AJ).
5. Screw the cylindrical guide (AC) onto the base (AA).

It is essential to check the condition of the surface of
the well. It should be replaced if excessively scratched and
at least after 10 uses.
Ensure that the silicon tubing is in good condition. We
recommend replacing it after each operation (references:
#205 for one meter of silicon tube or #205B for a 15m reel
of silicon tube).
Any blade presenting a defect that may jeopardize the
cutting performance must not be used.
