CONNECTION TO THE CHIMNEY
The appliances with automatic door closure (type 1) must function, for safety reasons, with the door of the furnace
closed (with the exception for the loading phase of the fuel or any removal of ashes).
The appliances with the doors without automatic closure (type 2) must be connected to a proper flue. The operation
with door open is allowed only with careful surveillance.
WARNING: if the connection crosses elements of inflammable materials, in the range of 20 cm around the pipe all the
inflammable materials must be replaced by materials that are fire proof and heat resistant.
So that the appliance can work well it is essential that enough air is admitted into the installation space for combustion
(see paragraph 7).
The wood burning stove/cooker is fitted with an upper smoke outlet. The tube to connect to the chimney must be the
shortest possible and the points of connection of the single tubes must be hermetically sealed. The connections to the
chimney must be made with stable and sturdy tubes (we recommend a thickness of 2 mm). The smoke outlet pipe
must be fixed hermetically to the chimney. The internal diameter of the connection tube must correspond to the
external diameter of the stub of the smoke outlet of the wood burning stove/cooker. This is guaranteed by the use of
pipes according to DIN 1298.
The depression to the chimney (DRAUGHT) must be of at least 17-20 Pascal (=1.7 – 2 mm of water column). The
measurement must always be made with the appliance hot (nominal heat performance When the depression
exceeds 20 Pascal (2 mm of water column) this must be reduced with the installation of an additional chimney effect
regulator (false air valve) on the outlet pipe or in the chimney.
7.
INFLUX OF AIR IN THE SPACE OF INSTALLATION DURING COMBUSTION
As wood burning stoves/cookers take their combustion air from the space of installation, it is essential that enough air
is admitted into the area itself. In case of air-tight windows and doors (e.g. homes built with energy saving criteria) it is
possible that the entry of fresh air is no longer guaranteed and this compromises the draught of the appliance, your
wellbeing and safety. Therefore it is necessary to guarantee an additional fresh air feed through an external air inlet
placed close to the appliance or through the laying of a duct for the combustion air which connects to the outside or in
a nearby ventilated room, with the exception of the boiler room or garage (FORBIDDEN).
The connection duct must be smooth with a minimum diameter of 120 mm, must have a maximum length of 4 m and
present no more than three bends. If this is directly connected with the outside, it is must have an appropriate
windbreak.
The combustion air inlet in the area of installation must not be obstructed during the operation of the wood burning
stove/cooker. It is essential that in the areas where the wood burning stoves/cookers operate with a natural draught of
the chimney, as much air as required for combustion, which is up to 25 m3/hr, is admitted. The natural recirculation of
the air must be guaranteed by a number of fixed openings to the outside, their size is decided by relevant regulations
on the matter. Ask for information from your trusted chimney sweep. The openings must be protected with grills and
never be obstructed. An extraction hood (extractor) installed in the same room or one nearby causes a depression in
