Will access from a single side be sufficient for most boilers? Indeed which side, this may vary from models to model.

CHIMNEY

The chimney is essential for the proper operation of the boiler and it must fulfil with the following requirements or meeting local national requirements
The smoke duct must be free of blockages. Mounting predominantly in the vertical plane. Avoid bends and deviations in relation to the vertical
axis greater than 45% .
At least, 5 meters of chimney will be installed to guarantee a good draw, trying to use double-wall pipes to optimise the hot smoke duct from the
boiler and avoid any condensation inside. In the external exits it is recommended to exceed the ridges or the highest point of the roof in half a
meter at least.
The interior section must be perfectly circular: rectangular or cross-sections must have rounded corners with a radius of not less than 20 mm.
The interior section must be constant, free and independent.
In order to avoid smoke flow returns or turbulences that may cause a blockage or reduce the correct smoke outlet, the connections will be made
by qualified staff, by following the steps on the safety rules point.
The average draft of the chimney for the nominal power is ±12Pa when using wood pellets.
To join the smoke ducts it is necessary to use non-flammable materials, resistant to the combustion products and their possible condensations.
It is forbidden to use fibre cement or metallic flexible pipes to connect the boiler to the chimney.
It is important to install the necessary elements between the smoke duct and the boiler smoke outlet duct in order to avoid the support of the duct
on the boiler.
Smoke ducts must not pass through the rooms where it is forbidden the installation of combustion equipments.
The installation of the smoke ducts must be made so that they are airtight to smoke during operation and that the formation of any condensation is
limited to avoid that it flows towards the equipment.
It is not recommended to install in horizontals sections. The maximum horizontal section allowed is 1 m (with an incline of 3%)
In the case of installations where the flue exit through a ceiling or walls it should be in the same plane with respect to the equipment smoke exit,
the change of direction must be made by open bends not higher than 45º.
In any case, smoke ducts must be airtight to combustion products and to
the condensations and they must also be thermal insulated if they pass
outside the installation room.
It is forbidden to install flues with a downward slope.
The smoke duct must allow the cleaning of the soot or be easily
accessible.
The duct section must be constant.
It is forbidden to pass any others air ducts or pipes inside the smoke
channels. It is not allowed to fit devices to control manually the draw in
equipments with a forced draw.
All boilers that send smoke to the exterior should have their own chimney. Never
use the same chimney for several equipments at the same time.
It is necessary to install a "T" with hermetic cover at the boiler exit smoke that
allows the regular inspection or the heavy dust discharge.
