1.2.2. Output card configuration
The default configuration for all the output cards is to deliver UTC time. The time recei-
ved from the NTP server is directly sent to the output.
Each card can be configured to output several local times. This configuration is done
through a WEB browser (see part 2).
1.3. BaSICS
This part contains a description of the basic concepts of the product LEDI Network ITS/
DCLS/NTP Server. It helps you to understand the behavior of the product under various
circumstances.
The LEDI Network ITS/NTP Server contains a NTP server and client software designed for
good-level precision and security. This NTP software is tightly coupled to a SNMP agent
that allows high-level management and supervision of the LEDI Network ITS/NTP Server.
1.3.1.The NTP protocol
NTP (Network Time Protocol) is a network protocol that allows the time synchronisa-
tion of different equipments through a TCP/IP+Ethernet network. The communication
is based on a client/server dialog. The LEDI Network ITS acts as the server and all the
equipment to be synchronised act as clients.
Each time, a client needs to be synchronized, it asks the time to the server (LEDI
Network ITS/NTP Server). The client application should integrate several computations
to compensate the transmission delays over the network. Depending on your client
software, you can expect a precision close to some milliseconds.
2/ With a GT LEDI Network IN (NTP client), the guaranteed accuracy is better than the ms.
