To change the standard setting of the shock-warning
function when switching on the measuring tool, pro-
ceed as follows:
– ALH: With the measuring tool switched off, press
and hold the grade "down" button 5 while switch-
ing the measuring tool on.
– ALHV/ALHV-G: With the measuring tool switched
off, press and hold the button for anticlockwise
rotation of the rotation head 26 while switching the
measuring tool on.
Working without Automatic Levelling
The automatic levelling can be switched off for one or
both axes.
In single-axis slope operation, the X-axis is auto-
matically levelled in, the Y-axis not. With the shock-
warning function switched on, only the levelling of the
X-axis is monitored. The rotational plane can be
inclined in the direction of the Y-axis within a range of
± 10 %. Additionally, the measuring tool can be set up
inclined alongside the Y-axis.
With the automatic levelling switched off, the rota-
tional plane can be inclined in the direction of the X-
and Y-axis within a range of ± 10 %. Additionally, the
measuring tool can be set up in any inclined position.
With the gradient plate (accessory), the measuring
tool can be inclined at an exact angle alongside an
axis when in the horizontal position.
Position changes of the measuring tool are
not detected when the automatic levelling is
switched off.
Single-axis Slope Operation in Horizontal Posi-
tion/Switching Off Automatic Levelling in Hori-
zontal Position (ALH)
Note: When the measuring tool is in the vertical posi-
tion, automatic levelling will not take place regardless of
whether the automatic levelling is switched on or off.
To switch on single-axis slope operation, press
the button for switching off the automatic levelling 6
once. The indicator for working without automatic lev-
elling 7 flashes rapidly.
In order to switch off the automatic levelling, the
shock-warning function must be switched off (shock-
warning indicator 2 not lit). To switch off the automatic
levelling, press button 6 until the indication for working
without automatic levelling 7 flashes slowly and evenly.
With the grade buttons 4 and 5, the rotational plane
can be inclined within a range of ± 10 % in direction of
the Y-axis both in single-axis slope operation as well
as when the automatic levelling is switched off.
To switch the automatic levelling on, press button
6 until the indication for working without automatic
levelling 7 goes out. Before switching on the auto-
matic levelling, set up the measuring tool in such a
manner that it is within the self-levelling range.

Single-axis Slope Operation in Horizontal Posi-
tion/Switching Off Automatic Levelling in Hori-
zontal Position (ALHV/ALHV-G)
To switch on single-axis slope operation, press
the button for switching off the automatic levelling 6
once. The operation indicator 9 flashes rapidly.
With the grade buttons 4 and 5, the rotational plane
can be inclined within a range of ± 10 % in direction of
the Y-axis in single-axis slope operation.
In order to switch off the automatic levelling, the
shock-warning function must be switched off (shock-
warning indicator 2 not lit). To switch off the automatic
levelling, press button 6 until operation indicator 9
flashes slowly and evenly.
With the four direction and grade buttons 4, 5, 24 and
27, the rotational plane can be inclined within a range
of ± 10 % in direction of the X- or Y-axis when the
automatic levelling is switched off.
To switch the automatic levelling on, press button
6 until operation indicator 9 lights up continuously.
Before switching on the automatic levelling, set up the
measuring tool in such a manner that it is within the
self-levelling range.
Switching Off the Automatic Levelling in the
Vertical Position (ALHV/ALHV-G)
In order to switch off the automatic levelling, the
shock-warning function must be switched off (shock-
warning indicator 2 not lit).
Press button 6 to switch off the automatic levelling.
The operation indicator 9 flashes slowly and evenly.
To switch on the automatic levelling, press button 6
again. The operation indicator 9 lights up continu-
ously.
With the grade buttons 4 and 5, the rotational plane
can be inclined within a range of ± 10 % from the ver-
tical line (e.g. for sloped facades).
Accuracy Check of the Measuring Tool
Influences on Accuracy
The ambient temperature has the greatest influence.
Especially temperature differences occurring from the
ground upward can divert the laser beam.
The deviations play a role in excess of approx. 20 m
measuring distance and can easily reach two to four
times the deviation at 100 m.
Because the largest difference in temperature layers
is close to the ground, the measuring tool should
always be mounted on a tripod when measuring dis-
tances exceeding 20 m. If possible, also set up the
measuring tool in the centre of the work area.
Apart from exterior influences, device-specific influ-
ences (such as heavy impact or falling down) can lead
to deviations. Therefore, check the accuracy of the
measuring tool each time before starting your work.
