Care and service instructions

To ensure correct operation, the tow ball and the receiver must be kept perfectly clean.
Contact and sliding surfaces must be greased at regular intervals with non-resinous grease. The lock
must be treated with graphite.
The ball on the tow ball that receives the tow coupling of the trailer must always be greased (to reduce
wear).
Regularly check the ball diameter. As soon as the diameter measures only 49 mm on any point, the
detachable tow ball should no longer be used for safety reasons.
Caution!
When cleaning the vehicle with a steam-jet cleaner, make sure to remove the tow ball and to place
the plug in the receiver.
Do not clean the tow ball with the steam-jet cleaner as this will wash out the grease on the inside
that is needed for lubrication.
Caution!
Pursuant to 70/222/EC the number plate must be completely
visible. You are therefore required by law, when driving without a
trailer, to remove the tow ball if it projects above the bottom of
the number plate, as shown in the figure. Violations may be
fined.
