HANDLEBAR SWITCH
INSTALLATION
Step (1)
Check to ensure that the vehicle
ground and positive leads from the
battery are disconnected before
performing any electrical work.
DO NOT
DANGER
!
ATTEMPT
TO INSTALL WIRING WHEN
THE BATTERY IS CONNECTED.
Automotive batteries contain
flammable and explosive gases.
Wear eye protection during
installation and remove all
metal jewelry. Do not lean
over battery while making
connections.
Step (2)
Using the supplied brackets and
hardware, mount the handlebar
switch in a convenient location.
Ensure that
WARNING
!
the switch
mounting position does not
impede the operation of the
vehicle. Before driving the
vehicle, test the vehicle
control system range of motion
to ensure the switch wiring
does not interfere with vehicle
operation.
Step (3)
Find a location to mount the
switching solenoid, i.e. under the
seat or in a storage box. If mounting
solenoid to frame use supplied
mounting plate and u-bolts.
Important: Solenoid can be
mounted in any position EXCEPT
inverted (connectors pointing down).
Step (4)
Run the handlebar switch wiring
10
down the handlebar to the switching
solenoid and connect per wiring
diagram (Figure 9). Attach wires to
hard points on the vehicle using
cable ties.
Ensure that
WARNING
!
the wiring har-
ness does not interfere or come
in contact with any hot or
moving engine, suspension,
steering, braking, or exhaust
parts.
Step (5)
Connect yellow with red stripe wire
to an ignition source using the sup-
plied connectors.
Step (6)
Using the blue and yellow leads,
match the colors on the solenoid
to the wires and connect to the
winch motor.
Step (7)
Connect the "+" or battery termi-
nal of the circuit breaker assembly
to the positive (red) battery wire.
Step (8)
Using the red and black leads,
match the colors on the solenoid
and connect to the battery.
Step (9)
Reconnect the vehicle positive and
ground leads to the battery.
Before testing
WARNING
!
winch opera-
tion, be sure to reel off approx-
imately two feet of wire rope.
Note: If your vehicle is equipped
with side pole terminals, it may be
neccessary to obtain auxillary side
terminal bolts from your local auto
parts dealer to make these connections.

BATTERY
Note: In the OFF position, an
electrical shunt provides dynamic
braking action, which will eliminate
coasting. In the OFF position, the
shunt reduces the action of a load
backdriving the winch. However, a
load can cause the winch to creep.
The winch is
DANGER
!
not designed
to act as a load holding device.
DO NOT use the winch to hold
loads in place. Use tie down straps
or chains for securing loads.
Disconnect
WARNING
!
the winch
from the battery when
unattended to prevent
unauthorized use.
