Synthetic Winch Rope Installation Instructions
CAUTION
!
This product to be used for non-industrial self-recovery in off-road applications
only. This product not to be used for any other purpose. It is the user's sole responsibility to follow
safe use guidelines to prolong the life of the winch rope. See winch owner's manual for further
information.
DANGER
!
Sharp edges and abrasion will significantly shorten rope life. Inspect entire length
of rope and protective sleeve before each use. Any rope that exhibits cut strands, fused or melted
fibers, inconsistent stiffness over the length of the rope, chemical contamination, flat areas or
lumps that are not eliminated by flexing the rope, or is otherwise visibly damaged must be
replaced immediately. Failure to do so can result in rope failure and personal injury.
WARNING
!
Do not modify any component of the product.
Manufacturer is not responsible for the results of misuse, misapplication, faulty installation or
vehicle condition, abuse, or modification of the product in any way.
Product not for use other than for its intended purpose.
Product not for use on winches other than those listed above.
Never hook the rope back onto itself. Always use proper rigging equipment.
Always keep clear of winch, hook, and taut rope while winching.
Do not let rope slide through hands - Always use a handsaver when handling rope or hook.
Do not knot or tie the rope to secure to a load or to repair a broken rope.
Do not expose the rope to heat sources or chemicals.
Do not pull the rope over rough surfaces or sharp edges.
Do not pull the rope around non-rotating sheaves or rollers.
Avoid continuous pulls from extreme angles. This will cause the rope to pile up on one end of the drum.
Never shock load the rope.
Always keep people and pets away from the winching operation.
Never use your winch to lift or move people.
Synthetic Winch Rope Installation:
Your synthetic winch rope comes fully assembled and ready for installation. Follow the simple steps below to secure
the synthetic rope (line) to your Superwinch winch. Please read through the entire installation process before beginning.
Note: When installing synthetic winch rope on a winch that has previously run wire rope, it is required that both the
winch drum and fairlead are closely inspected for any damage, nicks, or burrs that may damage the synthetic rope.
Using sandpaper, a scuffing pad, or equivalent, make sure drum and fairlead surfaces are free of any damage. It is
your responsibility to make sure the winch drum, fairlead and other items particular to your installation are free of
damage. We recommend a new aluminum hawse fairlead be used with your new synthetic rope.
Step (1)
Install winch and fairlead, if this is a new winch installation. (See your winch owner's manual.) Pass end of line
through fairlead, under drum, and through hole in drum.
Step (2)
Pull approximately 8" of line through hole (enough line so it reaches opposite end of drum). Position inserted line
lengthwise down the drum as shown. Using duct tape or similar, secure end of line to drum, taping around drum.
Setscrew is not used in this installation. You are now ready to wind on the line. (Be sure that line is wound on from
underneath drum. Line should come off drum on bottom.)
