General instructions
Read the operating instructions completely
before starting up and follow the safety inst-
ructions.
Keep the operating instructions in a place where they
can be accessed by everyone.
Ensure that only trained staff work with the appliance.
Implement the accident prevention regulations for
this typ of activity and workplace. Wear your personal
protective equipment at all times when working with
the laboratory reactor.
Only use the device under an all side-closed exhaust,
or a comparable protective device.
Do not use flammable or explosive gases, vapours or
solvents in the LR-2.ST laboratory reactor!
Any reaction vapour released at the reactor lid must
be extracted.
The appliance is not designed for use in explosion
hazard (Ex-certificate) areas!
Certain applications and materials may be hazardous.
You should take precautions to prevent contact with,
or inhalation of, toxic liquids, gases, fumes, vapours
or powders.
Risks may also be posed by biological or microbiologi-
cal substances.
Do not touch rotating parts.
DANGER
Moving and rotating equip-
ment parts also constitute a
hazard.
There is a danger of crushing
CAUTION
when lowering the reactor lid.
Power supply/switching off the device
The safety disconnector does
CAUTION
not apply to the heating bath.
Appliances that need to continue operation once the
reactor cover has been opened (e.g. thermostat), must
not be operated via the safety disconnector.
Only operate the device under a laboratory extractor
hood (closed on all sides) or other appropriate safety
device.
There must be an EMERGENCY STOP facility which
disconnects all poles to the laboratory reactor system
from the power supply. The laboratory reactor must
only be operated using the safety disconnector pro-
vided or in an extractor hood with emergency stop.
Connect the laboratory stirrer and the disperser drive
to the mains power supply over the LR-2.SI safety
disconnector. Connect these appliances to the multiso-
cket on the safety disconnector only
Connect these appliances to the locked socket strip
with safety disconnector only.

Performing trials
DANGER
The laboratory stirrer/disperser is fitted with a limit
switch which prevents the unit from being started until
it is in the fully lowered position. The anchor stirrer and
the dispersing element must only be operated when
the reactor vessel is fully closed.
Do not start up the laboratory reactor when it is open.

DANGER
WARNING
The reactor system must always be ventilated when
working under normal pressure in order to prevent any
pressure build-up caused by highly volatile gases or
unpredictable reaction pressure gradients. Condense
volatile gases using a cooler with a standard ground
connector (e.g. a reflux condenser) on the reactor
cover.
The appliance is designed for operation at vacuum
settings up to 25 mbar (see Accessories).
Please follow the safe procedures specified for hand-
ling reactants and reaction products.
The LR 2000.1 and LR 2000.2 laboratory reactor ves-
sels may only be heated without pressure using the
double shell with thermostats or similar heat sources.
Do not under any circumstances use a heating mantle
or a hot plate (Bursting hazard!).
We recommend that you use the IKA
heating bath to temper the LR 2.1 single-walled labo-
ratory reactor vessel.
Heating
CAUTION
Ensure that the thermostat used for tempering is fully
efficient. A defective thermostat can cause uncontrol-
led reactions.
Chilblains/burns due to low/
high temperatures on the hose
coupling. Open the hose cou-
pling only at room tempera-
ture.
Glass breakage due to pressure
differences at the quick-release
connectors.
When
quick-release connectors the
double jacket is completely
sealed. Pressure differences
can occur due to cooling/war-
ming of the medium.
Tempering liquids must be at
room temperature when chan-
ging/releasing. The equipment
is not designed for overpressu-
re use.

tor vessel and cover are very
hot. Wear protective gloves
when handling hot parts.
