2.5 General safety instructions

These safety instructions are essential for using and servicing
your Grin. They must therefore be followed strictly when using
the equipment.
Caution!
Visually inspect the equipment before use to ensure that the
blade, the mounting bolts and the mowing unit are not worn or
damaged. Replace any damaged or worn components and
make sure everything is still balanced.
Caution!
Before mowing, remove any stones, wood, glass and/or other
foreign objects, which could damage the blade and/or injure the
user, from the lawn.

2.5.1 Use

Wear high resistant shoes. NEVER mow the grass
barefoot or wearing sandals or other open shoes: the
blade rotates at high speed and could lift and project
foreign objects (e.g. stones, branches, etc.).
Always wear long trousers and suitable clothing to
protect your legs.
Caution!
Never switch your Grin on:
-
If you are not in the correct operating position, behind the
handlebar, or with the handlebar not properly fixed. Only
like this can you move the equipment safely and maintain
the correct distance from the blades.
-
If the Grin is tilted upright, in an unstable position and/or the
blade is not free to rotate.
-
If the Grin shows visible signs of damage and/or the safety
devices are defective or missing.
-
If there are people or animals within a range of about 5 m.
-
If the light conditions do not allow it to be used safely.
Caution!
-
Only push or pull your Grin with the handlebar at mowing
speed. Be careful not to trip when pulling the equipment.
Walk, do not run, when mowing.
Use the utmost caution when changing direction or pulling
the lawn mower towards you.
-
For greater safety, mow longitudinally across slopes. DO
NOT use your Grin on slopes greater than 20°.
Always make sure the lawn mower is steadily supported
and use extreme care when changing direction on slopes.
-
In the event of lengthy use of the lawn mower, the
transmitted vibrations to the operator could create
circulation problems in the fingers. Immediately stop using
the lawn mower if you get a tingling sensation in your
fingers.
-
If the blade jams, remove the obstruction ONLY with the
engine off.
-
Never transport the machine with the engine running!
Translation
Caution!
-
Store Grin indoors, only after the engine has cooled
down.
-
Keep the engine air intake clean and free from
obstructions.
-
In the event of a malfunction or before cleaning, always
wait until the engine has cooled down.
Caution!
ALWAYS and IMMEDIATELY switch the engine off:
When you're less concentrated or you are distracted by
-
other people, animals, objects or events.
-
When the blade rotates irregularly (e.g. vibrations,
abnormal movements and/or noises), after an interruption
or blockage.
-
When the engine or any other part of the lawn mower
sounds abnormal
-
When the safety provisions do not work properly.
It is advisable to use the lawn mower as
stipulated by the council regulations (usually
from Monday to Saturday from 7:00am to
12:00pm and from 3:00pm to 7:00pm). Enquire about other
restrictions related to professional use

2.5.2 Additional instructions for HM/PM/SPM models:

Caution!
-
In the event of petrol spills, do not try to start the engine, but
carefully clean the lawn mower and move it away from the
area where the spill occurred, and avoid creating any
sources of ignition until the air is clear of petrol vapours.
-
To reduce the risk of fire, keep the engine, exhaust and the
petrol storage area clear from grass, leaves or excessive
grease.
Caution!
-
After refuelling, always make sure the petrol tank cap is
closed properly.
-
Never start your Grin indoors or standing in front of the
exhaust pipe; combustion in the engine releases carbon
monoxide, which is a poisonous, colourless and odourless
gas.
Caution!
Replace defective exhausts.
All models with an internal combustion engine,
produce acoustic pressure in the operator's ear
exceeding 80 dBA and therefore the use of sound
protectors (earphones or plugs) is recommended.
