Cell constant and installation factor
The electrolytic conductivity of a fluid depends predominantly on the
ion concentration. However, the measurement must also take
account of the geometric conditions of the sensor environment and
the geometry of the sensor itself.
The geometry of the sensor is fully defined by the cell constant cc.
The geometric conditions of the sensor environment are defined by
the installation factor f. The installation factor f can be disregarded
when the sensor tip is located at a sufficient distance from the wall
(a > 30 mm). If the distance from the wall is less, the installation
factor is greater than 1 in the case of electrically insulating tubes (1)
and less than 1 in the case of electrically conductive tubes (2) (see
Fig. 3).
