Principle of Operation
The heating element butt-welding process is a type of joint in which two
components are plasticized by contact with a heating element and then
pressed together with a defined pressure. The seamless joint is achieved
through allowing them to cool. It includes the following operating steps:
•
If the components to be jointed are of a smaller diameter than the
size of the clamps, the appropriate reducer inserts are installed in
the clamps.
•
The clamps are prepared for straight joints or elbow joints of 15 de-
grees.
•
The components are secured in the clamps and aligned to each
other.
•
The butts of the pipes/fittings are faced and when facing is com-
pleted, the butts are checked for proper alignment.
•
The butts of components are pressed against the heating element,
to be heated as defined by the applicable welding time.
•
The heating element is removed from in-between the components
and both, pipes or fittings, are pressed against each other under
the defined pressure and allowed to cool down.
No external forces must be applied prior to the components
having completely cooled down.

Preparing the Welding Process, Clamping the Components
The butt-welding machine can be used for
straight and segmented-bend joints. For bend
segments, the clamps must be rotated to
make a 15 degree angle between them. This
is achieved with the disposition of the clamp
positioning bolts in their fastening slots.
Adjust the clamps as appropriate for the in-
tended jointing operation and make sure that
the bolts are tightly fastened in their slots.
Then secure the components to be worked
in the clamps. If their size is smaller than that of the clamps, use the ap-
propriate reducer inserts for the clamps prior to clamping them. Pipes will
be supported by the pipe supports at the far ends of the clamps. If their
diameter is small, the height of these supports must be adjusted.
The butt-welding machine is designed exclusively for use with
the supplied heating element. The use of any other heating
element puts the welding operation at risk of yielding a poor
