Cleaning and disinfection

Particular care in matters of hygiene is required in preparation and during inhalation
because of the mist particle size that can enter the alveoli. Nebulizing of medicines should
be done only with medication cups.
Warning: Do not use flammable or other explosive liquids as contact liquid or as aerosol.
Preparation: Remove the infusion equipment and hoses from the nebulizer chamber and
the bacterial filter. Remove the nebulizer chamber lid from the nebulizer chamber and
unscrew the transducer from the chamber.
Procedure: The individual parts of the ultrasonic nebulizer can be cleaned and disinfected as
indicated in the following table.
Warning: Before any cleaning or disinfecting of the apparatus, it must be disconnected
from any external voltage source to avoid the danger of electric shock.
Please follow these instructions:
1. Before any disinfection, the parts must be cleaned and then dried. Dirt particles can
become encapsulated and cause the equipment parts to be non-sterile after disinfection.
Therefore all parts must be thoroughly cleaned before disinfection and stubborn dirt
removed with a cloth and cleaning agent.
2. When using disinfectants, follow the instructions of the manufacturer and of the hygiene
specialist.
Warning: Risk of injury. Disinfectants can contain harmful substances that cause injury on
contact with skin or eyes. Protect your skin and eyes and obey the hygiene rules
when working with disinfectants.
Take care: Changes to materials. Almost all the components of the ultrasonic nebulizer are
made of plastics. Solvents, some disinfectants and cleaning agents, can start to
dissolve the plastics or cause stress cracks. Therefore, for cleaning the surfaces, do
not use substances containing hydrocarbons or alcohol.
3. After disinfecting in a solution, the parts must be well rinsed with water and then imme-
diately dried.
4. Steam autoclaving can cause changes to the materials.
Take care: Changes to materials. Steam autoclaving accelerates the natural ageing of plas-
tics. Changes to the materials can affect the functioning of the equipment parts.
5. After cleaning, always check the functioning of the equipment.
Take care: Functional check. Each time that the equipment is cleaned or disinfected, check
that the parts are working correctly.
