The M400 transmitter must only be installed, connected, commissioned, and maintained by
qualified specialists e.g. electrical technicians in full compliance with the instructions in this
Quick Setup Guide, the applicable norms and legal regulations.
The specialist must have read and understood this Quick Setup Guide and must follow the
instructions it contains. If you are unclear on anything in this Quick Setup Guide, you must
read the Operation Manual (supplied on CD-ROM and downloadable under "www.mt.com/
m400-downloads"). The Operation Manual provides detailed information on the instrument.
The M400 transmitter should be operated only by personnel familiar with the transmitter and
who are qualified for such work.
Intended Use
The M400 is a 2-wire transmitter for analytical measurements with HART™ communication
capabilities. The M400 is a multi-parameter transmitter and supports the measurements listed
in the parameter fit guide below. It is available as 1-channel version and compatible with
analog and ISM™ sensors.
The M400 transmitter is designed for use in the process industries. Additionally, the
M400/2XH, M400G/2XH and M400/2XH Type 1 transmitters are intrinsically safe certified and
suitable for installations in hazardous areas. For applications in hazardous areas refer to the
Operation Manual.
