INTRODUCTION
The SLC/SLG 415 safety light curtain / light grid is a multi-beam opto-electronic safety system of
the Type 4 category of electro-sensitive devices (in accordance with IEC 61496-1,2; EN 61496-1)
– if necessary equipped with MUTING function (SLC/SLG 415) - for the protection of persons
exposed to dangerous machines or plants.
The two PNP semi conductor outputs permit connection of the light curtain to a control system
complying with the requirements and level of safety required for the application.
The light curtain integrates the start/restart interlock and EDM functions (control of external relays
K1 and K2). In this way, the light curtain can be connected to a simple pair of relays or external
safety contactors without having to install additional modules.
A diagnostic display on the Emitter and Receiver provides the information required for correct use
of the device and to check for any operating faults.
The diagnostic output (see TROUBLESHOOTING, page 36) makes it possible to obtain weak
signal and light curtain status information from a single wire.
SLC/SLG 415 is ideal for protecting:
automatic palletizing / depalletizing systems, materials handling and storage systems, packing
and packaging machines, assembly lines, industrial automatic warehouses, AGV transit
openings, metal, wood, marble and glass tool machines, presses, die cutting machines.
SAFETY NOTES
These instructions for mounting and wiring must be available to technical personnel at
•
all times.
Always comply with the information contained in the mounting and wiring instruction, in
•
particular, with those concerning safety.
The control system of the plant or machinery in question must be electrically
•
controllable.
A switch command originating from the Safety Module must cause the dangerous
•
movement of the machine to be switched off.
Installation, wiring, setting and start-up of the units should be carried out by qualified
•
personnel only.
Changes and adjustments to the safety device should be made by authorised technical
•
personnel only.
It must be ensured that a person cannot reach a danger point or danger area before the
•
dangerous movement of the machinery has been halted. It must also be ensured that
the machine cannot re-start as long as a person or a part of his body is at the danger
point or in the danger area.
It must not be possible to operate controls capable of setting the plant or machinery in
•
motion from within the danger area. The entire danger area must be visible.
Before starting the machinery for the first time, it must be tested by the
•
proprietor/operator or his engineers.
It is prohibited to make changes or modifications to the units other than those described
•
in these Instructions.
For the installation and use of safety equipment, the relevant national and international laws,
regulations and guidelines regarding safety equipment on plant and machinery must be
complied with at all times.
This symbol indicates an important personal safety warning. Failure to comply with the
warning may result in very high risks for exposed personnel.
