10.4.Means of driving.
Our vertical pumps can he driven by all known means : with flat or V-belt pulleys, gear reducers and
multipliers, direct or mixed drive. ALL OUR VERTICAL PUMPS TURN TO THE LEFT as is shown on the
headstock (12) therefore, before installing the motor is turning direction should be checked to see if it is
correct. Only then will it be ready to be coupled.
Gear drives – Assembly and Maintenance.
Please fill the bearing box to the indicated level with oil type SAE-40.
Generally, the gear drives leave our plant provided with the quantity and quality of lubricant (SAE 40 oil)
needed for normal use. Nevertheless, when assembling, it shall be advisable to verify whether they actually
have the level of lubricant required or not and where this is not the case, any amounts which might have
been lost in transit shall be duly replenished.
The quality of oil we recommend (SAE 40) is referred to normal working conditions as it should vary
depending on the gear drives having to operate at extreme temperatures – hot or cold. If this is your case,
feel free to let us know please, as we will be only too pleased to help you select the most appropriate oil to
keep your machine running at the highest yield rate.
The oil level shall be verified every 200 operating hours and it shall be topped up when necessary.
Every, 1500 working hours or at least once a year, they shall be emptied and cleaned with most care and
then, they shall be refilled with the above named oil.
When erecting, clean all those areas prone to be in contact and proceed with assembly without forcing or
stricking in order to achieve a perfect coupling and alignment.
An incorrect alignment may lead to both noises and vibrations which might in turn damage both bears and
the pump itself.
The pump erection has been described under the chapter « 8.5. ASSEMBLY ». The only difference in this
case being that the gear drive replaces the bearing box. In other words : as from the placing of the
deflecting ring (19), the gear drive voided of the semi-spherical cap on the op shall be introduced into the
shaft (10), till it becomes fully flushed and screwed.
Once the position of the key on the shaft (10) has been verified, the pump axial engagement adjusting nut
(20) shall be placed with the shaft line which comprise the column incorporating all the necessary elements
in order to keep the rotating pack from rubbing. This nut (20) shall be fixed by a screw it incorporates once
the PUMP TURNING CAPACITY has been verified by hand.
The cap intended for protecting the above named mechanisms shall be replaced and the cooling circuit
shall be connected to the hole the head incorporates for such a purpose.
Drive unit with cardan shaft. When a cardan (universal joint) is used for the gear drive actuation , we
shall verify whether its joints are freely turning. Prior to assembling and every 200 working hours, it shall be
lubricated with SAE 140 oil or thin grease.
By keeping the distance required by the cardan (universal joint the reduced and the motor shafts shall be
vertically aligned, bearing in mind they shall be strongly secured on its bedplates in order to obviate
displacing. This operation is easily carried out with the aid of two squares which are situated on the shaft
ends and a metric tape.
Drive unit with semi-elastic coupling When a semi elastic coupling is used together with the right angle
gear box, its alignment must be perfectly checked
Nevertheless to control the alignment of the pump set, coupling halves must be verified with the aid of a
rule of as explained bellow. This check on the external face of the coupling should be repeated at 90º.
